Ella Mae Hardee

Funeral services for Ella Mae Jacobs Hardee, 85, of Williston, were held 4 p.m. Sunday, October 5, 2014, in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Floyd Dukes officiating. Burial followed in the Edisto Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hardee passed away Friday, October 3, 2014.

Cynthia Trussell

Cynthia Lynn Huffmyer Trussell, 60, of Barnwell, passed away Friday, October 3, 2014.
Mrs. Trussell was born on August 1, 1954 in Rochester, Pa.  She was the daughter of Sidney and Marjorie Parker Huffmyer. She was a 1976 graduate of Clarion State University, Clarion, Pa. She taught science and social studies for 26 years at Guinyard-Butler Middle School, Barnwell. She was a member of the S.C. Education Association and received a State Science Teachers Award.  She was a member of Ghents Branch Baptist Church and was a past church secretary.

Alma Chevrier

Funeral services for Alma Olive Price Chevrier, 88, of Williston, were held 11 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2014 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston. Burial followed at Sunset Memory Gardens, Langley. The family received friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
Alma passed away Monday, September 29, 2014.
Born in New York, she was a daughter of the late John Price and Gwendolyn H. Jones Price. Alma was a homemaker. She was married to the late John Joseph Chevrier and was of the Catholic faith.

Christopher Miller Jr.

Kendra Chavis and Chris Miller are proud to announce the birth of their son, Christopher Matthew Miller Jr. He was born at 4:08 p.m. September 16, 2014 at Aiken Regional medical Center. He weighed seven pounds, six ounces and was 20 inches long.
He has one sister, Aryana Miller.
Paternal grandparents are Robert and Margaret Miller Sr. of Barnwell.
Maternal grandparents are James Chavis, the late Tessa Chavis and Karin Chavis of Barnwell.
Paternal great-grandparents are Brooks Ingram and the late Pinkreey Ingram and the late Herman and Mattie Bell Willingham.

Zechariah Chavis Birth Announcement

Jonathan and Darlene Chavis are proud to announce the birth of their son, Zechariah Lee Chavis. He was born July 2, 2014 at Aiken Regional Medical Center. He weighed six pounds, 14 ounces and was 19 ¾ inches long.
He has one sister, Sylvia Jolene Chavis.
Paternal grandparents are the late Stella Chavis, Leamon and Debbie Chavis of Blackville
Maternal grandparents are Michael and Tammy Wood of Blackville.

Cave, Baughman Engagement

The Honorable Mayor William and Rosa Cave, of Kline, are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Pamla Arlivia Cave, to Jamie Alan Baughman.He is the son of Charles Alan Baughman and Karen Kissiah of Barnwell, and stepson of Rick Kissiah, and Shirley Baughman of Barnwell.
The brid- elect is a 2000 graduate of Barnwell High School. She is currently serving in the role as the Human Resource Admin., for Crane Merchandising Systems.

Barnwell: The Fuller Park Farmers Market is open to local artisans and crafters this year and we encourage those in the area to participate in the market. They are accepting vendor applications for the 2014 season. May- September market is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m and Thursday nights from 5 to 8 p.m..

Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. McAlhaney IV of Aiken are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Tatum Lynn McAlhaney. She was born on July 22, 2014 at 8:31 p.m. at the Aiken Regional Medical Center. She weighed seven pounds nine ounces and was 20 inches long.
Maternal grandparents are Bo Griffin and the late Lynn Rush Griffin of Bamberg.
Paternal grandparents are Robbie and Karen McAlhaney of Williston.
Maternal great-grandparents are the late John and Ruth Griffin of Blackville and the late Vera H. Rush of Barnwell and the late Samuel O. Rush of Orangeburg.

Epperson, Smajic

Mr. and Mrs. Mike Epperson of Govan are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Sarah Amanda, to Laris Smajic. Laris is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Moore of Paradise Valley, Ariz.
The bride-elect is a 2004 graduate of Barnwell High School. She is currently employed as a nanny and homeschool teacher in Peoria, Ariz.
The groom-elect is a 2010 graduate of Washington High School in Phoenix, Ariz. He is currently employed with Scottsdale Hotel and Resort in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Josephus Hicks

Josephus Hicks, formerly of Blackville, died on Sunday, August 3, 2014.
Loving father of Gregory (Shawne) Hicks, he is also survived by two granddaughters, Tiffany and Alisa Hicks; two brothers, James and Willie Hicks; one sister, Mary Perry; one brother-in-law; three sister-in-laws; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held Monday, August 11, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service at 11 a.m. at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Washington, DC. Interment followed at Fort Lincoln Cemetery.

Jacqueline Mayes

Jacqueline Mayes, 55, of Bronx, N.Y., passed away Monday, July 21, 2014 at Monte Fiore Medical Center, Bronx, N.Y.
Graveside service was held 4 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2014, at Hope Memorial Park in Barnwell.
Survivors include two sons, Tyrone Price and Michael Price; grandchildren; other relative and sorrowing friends.
Guinyard and Sons Funeral Home were in charge of arrangements.

Edgar Ferguson Jr.


Edgar "Pee Wee" Ferguson Jr., 75, of Allendale, husband of Jeanette Stokes Ferguson, died Wednesday, August 6, 2014.
Mr. Ferguson was a native of Allendale and a son of the late Edgar Ferguson Sr. and the late Eugenia Laird Newsome. He was retired after 45 years from Milliken & Co., Captain with the Allendale County Fire Dept., a member of Allendale County Rescue Squad and a member and deacon of Mt. Arnon Baptist Church.

Richard Bacon

Richard Norton Bacon (Rick) of Lumberton has left the building. His friends will tell you he's in a better place. The rest will say they can smell the Bacon burning. He is stress-free and at peace.
The curtain came down on Thursday night at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.
He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Candace Smith Bacon. He is also survived by his son Jonathan Bacon and wife Beth of High Point; daughter Melody Kearse of Rock Hill, S.C., and son Bryan Kearse and wife Liz of Raleigh. Five grandchildren made his life better with their visits.

Newspaper staff honored for writing

Two People-Sentinel staffers were recognized by their parent company, Morris Communications, for their journalism efforts.
Managing Editor Jonathan Vickery and Publisher Laura McKenzie both received honorable mentions in the 2014 Morris Journalism Excellence Awards, open to staffers from the company's portfolio of papers across the country. Competition was tight as a panel of outside experts selected just one winner for each category in two circulation divisions, though an honorable mention could be awarded.
