Murvin attends national fatherhood conference

One of Denmark Technical College's own represented South Carolina at a national fatherhood conference in San Francisco recently.
Terry Murvin, a DTC building and grounds specialist, flew to California for the 12th annual conference organized by the Fathers and Families: Coalition of America group held March 1-4. Murvin has been working full-time at DTC since 2010.
Murvin's trip was a community endeavor because Voorhees College helped with travel expenses.
"It was a success and then some," Murvin said.

DTC teaches nonviolence

The lessons of non-violence that formed the beliefs of Dr. Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi and Daisaku Ikeda visited the Denmark Technical College campus in a physical form Feb. 2.
The display is known as the SGI-USA National Victory Over Violence (VOV) exhibit. SGI-USA is Soka Gakkai International-USA, a culturally diverse Buddhist association with over 12 million members in 185 countries. SGI-USA runs the VOV initiative.

SRNS donates $110,000 to DTC

The theme for Denmark Technical College’s third annual Presidential Scholarship gala Feb. 3 was “Celebrating Our New Beginning…Exceeding Expectations.”
Those expectations were exceeded as DTC surpassed its goal of $25,000 for the scholarship fund. Over $30,000 was raised in contributions during the fund-raising campaign. The fund is used to give DTC students who might otherwise not be eligible academic assistance with books and tuition.

Ice delays DTC’s classes, not goals, says Townsend

DENMARK – Despite the snow and ice storm that postponed Denmark Technical College from its original opening date of Jan. 10, DTC moved into its spring 2011 semester, holding full classes Jan. 12.
Because of the winter storm, DTC administration decided to close Jan. 10 and 11, which followed suit along with the other 15 technical colleges in South Carolina and most public school districts statewide.

DTC invites public to Homecoming 2011

DENMARK – Denmark Technical College will launch Homecoming 2011 in elegant style with its third annual DTC Presidential Scholarship Gala, a banquet at 7 p.m., Feb. 3.
The event is a fund-raiser for the presidential scholarship fund administered through the DTC Foundation, which is an auxiliary organization of the college designed to promote and support it through fund-raising campaigns for capital improvements and scholarship drives. It will be held in the Tri-County (#026) building on the DTC main campus.

Williams crowned Miss DTC

Ask LaShaundre Williams for an example of someone who embodies the virtues of a real-life queen, and she is quick to name her mother, Dedre Fluitt.
“I look to my mom. She knows when to speak and when not to speak and she knows how to pick and choose her battles, but she is soft-spoken,” she said.
Williams said her mother knew how to make people feel good, but could be firm when needed.
Williams, 23, was formally crowned as “Miss Denmark Technical College” during her coronation ceremony Oct. 29 in the McDuffie Student Services Center at DTC.

DTC shows appreciation

Denmark Technical College still had the Thanksgiving spirit as it recognized area educators who encourage high school students to higher learning and technical educations.
On Dec. 2, DTC hosted the Tri-County Business Alliance school counselors’ appreciation luncheon at the main campus of DTC in Denmark.
