Wall, Burleson announce engagement

Mrs. Stephanie Hoyer of Aiken and Mr. Donnie Wall of Hilda are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Britney N. Wall, to Jesse Burleson. He is the son of James and Janet Burleson of Orangeburg.

The bride-elect is a 2016 graduate of Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College. She is currently employed as a nurse at Barnwell Pediatrics.

She is the granddaughter of Becky Wall and the late Deanie Wall of Olar.

Joshua O. Creech born on August 22, 2017

Darius O. Creech and Latasha Ford are proud to announce the birth of their son, Joshua O. Creech.

He was born at 8:25 a.m. on August 22, 2017 at Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville. He weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces and was 21 inches long.

Paternal grandparents are James and Mary A. Creech Sr. of Barnwell.

Maternal grandparents are Gerald and Rose Ford of Bamberg.

Paternal great-grandparents are Mae J. Creech and the late Angus Creech Jr. of Barnwell.

Maternal great-grandparents are Mattie W. Ford and the late Richard Ford of Bamberg.

Mr. & Mrs. Platt celebrate 60 years

Charles and Harriett Platt of Olar celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on August 23, 2017.

They were married on August 23, 1957.

Mr. and Mrs. Platt have two children, Ricky Platt of Arlington, Va. and Pam (Don) Williams of Barnwell.

They have four grandchildren: Brett Williams, Sara Platt, Libby Platt and Charlie Platt.

Wylder James Adams - BIRTH

Logan and Christy Adams of Barnwell are proud to announce the birth of their son, Wylder James Adams.

He was born at 12 a.m. on June 27, 2017 at ARMC. He weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces and was 20 ¾ inches long.

Wylder has one brother, Keegan Zissett.

Paternal grandparents are Tim and Nita Adams and Bobby and Rita Crocker of Allendale.

Maternal grandparents are Curtis and Trina Rountree of Barnwell.

Paternal great-grandparents are James and Ruth Adams of Allendale and Dorothy and the late Frank Anderson of Saluda.

Rountree, Adams

Christy Lynn Rountree of Barnwell and Timothy “Logan” Adams of Barnwell were united in marriage on October 9, 2016 at Barnwell State Park. The Rev. David Porter (notary) officiated. The bride was given in marriage by her father, Curtis Rountree and son Keegan Zissett.

The bride’s dress was ivory and nude lace with a plunging neckline and edged in layers of tulle ruffles.

The bride carried a bouquet of Gerbera daisies, hydrangeas and baby’s-breath.

Mr. & Mrs. Pender celebrate 50 years

Donnie and Sandy (Seay) Pender of Barnwell celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 13, 2017. They were honored with a surprise celebration on August 12, 2017 hosted by their family.

The couple was married in Barnwell on August 13, 1967.

They have two sons, Bru (Ashley) Pender of Lexington, SC and Britt (Ashley) Pender of Barnwell; two daughters, Daphne (Donald) Walters and Paige (Travis) Black, all of Barnwell.

Mr. & Mrs. Wright celebrate 54 years

Aubrey and Patricia Wright of Barnwell celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on August 23, 2017.

They were married on August 23, 1963.

Mr. and Mrs. Wright have three children, including Terri Wright of Columbia, Jacquline McMillian of Jersey City, New Jersey, and Doreen Scott of Columbia. The couple also has five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Barnwell High 60s reunion: Perhaps the sweetest one yet

For those of you who did not attend our most recent reunion, that’s okay. Yes, the crowd was somewhat smaller, but my, it was thought to be the sweetest.

Friday evening found us gathering at EL Bab Shrine Club. Following a prayer, Coach Gwynne Hupfer and wife Jeannie were introduced. This loyal couple travels all the way from Alabama every other year just to stay in touch with these Barnwell folks.

Milton and Mary Butler were recognized reminding us that, as director of the Barnwell Scarlet Knights Band, Butler’s Drill Team was number one in the nation in 1963.

Zissette, Robinson to wed

Jessica Renee Zissette and Jack Fishel Robinson would like to announce their upcoming marriage.

The bride’s son, Michael Zissette, will be honored to give his mother away in marriage to his step father, Jack Robinson.

The wedding will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 1 p.m. The ceremony will be held at the Barnwell State Park outside the Solomon Blatt Community Center with the lake view as a backdrop for the occasion.

Taygan Spell born on July 19, 2017

Brandon and Rhonda Spell are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Taygan Grace Spell.

She was born at 3:52 a.m. on July 19, 2017 at ARMC. She weighed 6 pounds, 10 ounces and was 20 inches long.

She has two brothers, Cameron and Easton Spell, and two sisters, Autumn and Savannah Spell.

Dabney Richardson born on July 3, 2017

Jay and Macon Richardson are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Dabney Grace Richardson.

She was born on July 3, 2017. She weighed 6 pounds, 2 ounces and was 18.5 inches long.

Dabney is the youngest sibling. Her sisters are Perry, Tayloe and Landry Richardson.

Community Calendar - August 2, 2017

First Thursday
BINGO will be held every first Thursday (Aug. 3) at the Allendale Community Center (217 Flat St., Allendale) from 6-8 p.m. Refreshments will be for sale. First game is free. 
First Friday
First Friday will be held at the Allendale Community Center (217 Flat Street, Allendale) on Friday, August 4. The LGB Band and Mr. Edward Dunbar of the Drifters will perform. There will also be craft vendors, paint night, gospel hour and food vendors. Bring your own lawn chair.

She weighed 6 pounds, 4 ounces and was 18 ½ inches long.

Her parents are Josh and Marika Richardson of Summerville.

Maternal grandmother is Maria Pascucci of Summerville.

Paternal grandparents are Patrick and Pem Richardson of Barnwell. Paternal great-grandmother is Bobbie Metzger of Allendale.

Willow was welcomed home by her brothers, Junuh and Ashton.

Gray, Grubbs announce engagement

Mr. and Mrs. John E. Gray Jr. of Barnwell are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Jacqueline Gray, to Matthew Grubbs. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald M. Smith and the late Clark Grubbs of Barnwell.

The bride-elect is a 2010 graduate of Barnwell High School and 2013 graduate of Clemson University. She is currently employed by USDA Farm Service Agency in Orangeburg.

Kinard, Alderman announce engagement

Mr. and Mrs. Mike Kinard of Barnwell are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Caitlyn Rebecca Kinard, to Alex Jay Alderman. He is the son of Mr. Kent and the late Mrs. Maria Alderman of Aiken.

The bride-elect is a 2013 graduate of Barnwell High School. She is currently employed by Energy Solutions.

The groom-elect is a 2011 graduate of Barnwell High School. He is currently employed by Edisto Electric Cooperative.

Lions Club wrapping up calendar sales August 1

The Barnwell Lions Club members are winding up their sale of the 2018 Lions Club Birthday Calendars.

If you are not a regular subscriber and desire to get your and your families birthdates on the 2018 calendar, it is still not too late. The Birthday Calendars are $5 each and the listing is $0.50 each. Listings include birthdates (month and date), anniversary, and club/church/town/county meeting dates.

Lions Club awards three scholarships

At its June 27 meeting, the Barnwell Lions Club presented D. Austin Shelley scholarships to three Barnwell area graduates.

These scholarships are in honor of Mr. Shelley who was one of the charter members of the Barnwell Lions Club. He was a graduate of Clemson University, a veteran of World War II, and a long-time county extension agent. He stressed the importance of academic scholarship and community service which are the fundamental criteria in which these three graduates have distinguished themselves.
