Beasley, Close to wed

Mr. and Mrs. Jay R. Beasley of Barnwell are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Rachael Beasley, to Stephen Close. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael L. Close of Allendale.

The bride-elect is a 2016 graduate of Trident Technical College. She is currently employed by Berley’s Pharmacy in Barnwell.

The groom-elect is a 2009 graduate of Trident Technical College. He is currently employed by Hendrick Hyundai of Charleston.

The wedding is scheduled for April 29, 2017 at Cottontop in Norway.

Sanders, Gardner to wed

Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Ansel “Sandy” Sanders of Olar are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Sydney Jane Sanders, to Payton Ross Gardner. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Brent Dwight Gardner of Saluda.

The bride-elect is a 2013 graduate of the University of South Carolina and received a Master’s degree in 2016 from South Carolina State University. She is currently employed as a Speech Language Pathologist with Soliant Health Company.

Samuel Ramsey - Birth

Michael and Sarah Ramsey are proud to announce the birth of their son, Samuel Russell Ramsey. He was born on February 6, 2017 at East Cooper Medical Center.

He weighed 8 pounds, 5 ounces and was 20 inches long.

He has two brothers, Ben and Paul.

Paternal grandparents are Margaret Ramsey, Michael (late) and Joanne Ramsey of Charleston.

Maternal grandparents are John Dickerson, Marcella and Fred Williams of Blackville.

Isabel Heltibridle turns 10

Isabel Jade Heltibridle celebrated her 10th birthday on February 23, 2017.

Isabel is the daughter of Ashley Miles and Bobby Heltibridle of Barnwell.

She has three brothers, Kobey, Craig, and Clay; and has two sisters, Shelby and Ashby.

Grandparents are Tammy Thompson, Ken Miles, Donnie and Sandy Pender, and the late Phil Thompson Jr.

Great-grandparents are Harriett (whom Isabel shares a birthday with) and Everon Collins of Hilda.

Jess Wilbanks ordained into gospel ministry

Williston First Baptist Church recently ordained its children’s and youth minister into the ministry.

Jess Wilbanks, who has led the church’s children and youth for four years, was ordained into the gospel ministry during the Sunday service on March 12.

“Hospitality is the hallmark of her ministry,” said Blake Wilbanks of his wife as he outlined what it means to be ordained.

George, Black announce engagement

Pressley Elayne George of Smoaks and Austin Oneal Black of Blackville announce their engagement.

Pressley is a recent graduate of Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College and is employed as a paralegal with Peters, Murdaugh, Parker, Eltzroth & Detrick Law Firm in Walterboro.

Austin graduated from Aiken Technical College and is employed as a service technician by Bridgestone Tire Manufacturing in Aiken.

An April wedding is planned.

Craig named Conservation Farmer of the Year

Each year, the Barnwell Soil and Water Conservation District awards a farmer or landowner for outstanding conservation efforts.

On February 28, 2017, the District recognized C. Kelly Craig, a row crop and poultry farmer who has conserved soil and reduced runoff by strip-till planting all row crops.

Commissioner Dr. Mike Sullivan presented a plaque to Craig, the 2016 Conservation Farmer of the Year, for his dedication to farming and natural resource conservation.

Huggins, Baxley announce engagement

Mr. and Mrs. Travis Black of Barnwell are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Kaylyn Huggins, to Jay Baxley. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jason Baxley of Barnwell.

The bride-elect is a 2013 graduate of Clemson University. She is currently employed by Barnwell District 45 as a career specialist.

The groom-elect is a 2015 graduate of Horry Georgetown Tech. He is currently employed by Baxley’s Tree Service of Barnwell.

The couple will exchange vows in the spring of 2017. Formal invitations will be sent.

Wilson, Howze announce engagement

Mr. Damien Wilson of Whiteville, N.C. and Ms. Sarika Davis or Loris are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Audriana Wilson, to Shawn Howze Jr. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Shawn (Carla) Howze Sr. of Blackville.

The bride-elect is a 2011 graduate of Loris High School. She graduated from Claflin University in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in Politics and Justice. She is currently employed by Orangeburg County Department of Social Services.

Church Calendar - March 1, 2017

Second Baptist Church in Barnwell will celebrate their youth all month long with the “March Madness Youth Explosion 2017”. They kick everything off on March 1 at 7:30 p.m. with Rev. Terrance Thomas & Nazarene Baptist Church. On Sunday, March 5, SBC’s Youth Choir will celebrate their 7th choir anniversary beginning at 10:30 a.m. with the theme “I’m a Believer!” Each Wednesday and Sunday, SBC will have special events and surprises geared toward youth, so they encourage all area youth to come out and bring a friend. Adults are invited to help uplift, inspire and encourage the youth.

James, Williams announce engagement

Mr. Willie Carter of Williston and Mrs. Tamie J. Workman of Barnwell are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Nashira James, to Avonté Williams. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie (Sheila) Williams of Williston.

The bride-elect is a 2009 graduate of Barnwell High School. She is currently employed by Allendale Barnwell Disability Board. She is also currently attending Aiken Technical College and majoring in nursing.

The groom-elect is a 2008 graduate of Williston-Elko High School. He is currently employed by Dayco.

Hooper Hutto - Birth

Proud parents Hunter and Hannah Hutto of Barnwell are proud to announce the birth of their beautiful baby boy, Hooper Bentley Hutto.

Hooper Bentley was born January 31 at 5:26 p.m. at Orangeburg Regional Medical Center. He weighed 8 pounds and 3 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long.

Proud grandparents are Darin and Amy Hutto of Barnwell and Ron and Michelle Platt of Govan.

Deputy, canine headed to National Detector Trials

The Barnwell County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce that Barnwell County deputy Elizabeth Schumpert and her canine “Ruby” came in first place on Feb. 11 at the Narcotic Detection Certifications conducted by the U.S. Police Canine Association (Region 2).

They earned a near-perfect score of 199.67 of 200 competing against canines from South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee. The certification requires the handlers and canines to be graded and timed on vehicle and building searches.

Sadie Bragg turns one

Sadie Dawn Bragg celebrated her first birthday on February 14, 2017.

She is the daughter of Ryan and Shanon Bragg of Hilda.

Paternal grandparents are the late Jerry Bragg and the late Debbie Still.

Maternal grandparents are Jeff Teems and Kristal Teems.

Nazarene Baptist Church in Fairfax will have a Witness Fitness Lunch & Learn on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 11 a.m. At 3 p.m. they will have a Women’s Ministry Meeting. On Sunday, Feb. 19 at 2:30 p.m. they will have the 68th Annual Missionary Program.

Circle Theatre Youth Wing Play

Come see the Circle Theatre Youth Wing perform “A Grimm Night for Hans Christian Andersen”. Watch as fairy tales come to life on stage with a twist that will keep you laughing the whole time.

Performances are February 17, 18, 24 & 25 at 8 p.m. and matinees on February 19 and 26 at 3 p.m. Ticket sales will begin soon at all normal outlets, including Evelyn’s Jewelry in downtown Barnwell and online.

Collins, Gibbons announce engagement

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Clayton Collins of Blackville are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Peggy Ann Collins, to Edward Guy Gibbons III. He is the son of Mrs. Lisa L. Gibbons and the late Edward Guy Gibbons II of Manning.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mrs. Jean Morgan and the late Daniel Morgan of Springfield and Mr. Robert O. Collins and the late Peggy G. Collins of Blackville.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Liscio of Manning and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Guy Gibbons of Manning.

Gloster, Pou wed

Eunice Yvonne Gloster of Columbia and Darryl Pou of Columbia were united in marriage on November 12, 2016 at the Orangeburg Country Club in Orangeburg. The Rev. John Holston officiated. The bride was given in marriage by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Larry Gloster Sr.

The bride’s dress was a strapless gown featuring a sweetheart neckline with a beaded sash at the waist and a chapel length train. The bride carried a bouquet of white calla lilies adorned with pearls.

Cayton Collins, Michael Warmbold wed

Cayton Elizabeth Collins of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Barnwell, and Michael Gustav Warmbold of Charlotte, N.C. were united in marriage on December 17, 2016 at The Presbyterian Church on Edisto Island. The Rev. Ashley R. Sanders officiated. The bride was given in marriage by her father.

The bride’s dress was a strapless gown of ivory taffeta. The gown incorporated pieces of the bride’s maternal grandmother’s wedding gown, which was also worn by the bride’s mother. The bride carried a hand-tied bouquet of hypericum cherry, white roses and greenery.
