Elko Farmers Market
Vendor applications are being accepted for the 2016 season. Farmers, market gardeners, crafters and home bakers are invited to join the market. The market will open every Saturday (weather permitting) until mid-fall from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is located across from the post office on Hwy 78 in Elko.

FINS Swimming Program
The FINS Swimming Program will be offered in Barnwell during the week of June 6-9 and in Blackville June 13-16. This free program is for youth ages 4-16. It is sponsored by the Barnwell Rotary Club and Axis 1 Center of Barnwell in memory of B.B. Baxley.

Ultimate Baby Shower
BlueChoice HealthPlan Medicaid and Family Solutions of the Low Country present the Ultimate Baby Shower on Saturday, June 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Guinyard-Butler Middle School (779 Allen Street, Barnwell). There will be games, prizes and healthy snacks.

D29 Summer Food Program
The Summer Food Program at Kelly Edwards Elementary School in Williston starts on June 6 and ends July 28. It will run Monday thru Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., except for the week of July 4-8. They will deliver lunch at Lincoln Park, West Main Apartments (Sugar Hill), and St. Peter’s Baptist Church from 11 a.m. to noon. This institution is an equal opportunity provider.
 
Youth Empowerment Camp
Trinity Outreach Ministries will hold a youth empowerment camp June 6-30 and July 5-August 4 from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. Extended hours are available. Spaces are limited. Includes scholastic hands-on activities, breakfast and lunch, field trips and academic enrichment. 
Enrollment packets are available at the Barnwell location (47 Allen Street) or by calling (803) 621-2412 for appointment after 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. 
 
AARP Driver Safety Class
AARP Driver Safety will hold their next class on Thursday, June 23 at Generations Unlimited, 11403 Ellenton St., Barnwell. Class will begin at 9 a.m. and run until 1 p.m. You may bring a snack to have during class.
The cost for class materials is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members, cash or check (payable to AARP). Completion of this class may result in a discount on the participant’s automobile insurance.

Project SAVE
Allendale County Youth Empowerment will hold Project SAVE, which is centered around the National Gun Violence Awareness Day, on June 25 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Allendale Community Center on Flat Street in Allendale. The goal is to leverage the good works across the local police, fire department, government officials, local churches and town residents. There will be fun for the entire family but also lots of useful information that citizens of Allendale may need.

Drama Camp
His Glory Productions, LLC will hold its HGP 2016 Summer Drama Camp on June 13 - 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday through Friday at Mt. Everest Worship Center (5670 Hwy. 278, Barnwell). This is a two-week long day camp where participants will receive instruction on and participate in live theatre. They will learn how to let their creativity flow through theatrical expressions, costumes, props and more. Also they will learn the fundamentals and techniques of acting such as dialogue, monologue, improvisation, and pantomime. 
The drama camp culminates on June 24 at 6 p.m. with a collection of mini performances put together and performed by the participants. The cost of the two-week camp is $50 per participant.

Saturday Absentee Voting Hours
The Barnwell County Voter Registration and Elections Office will be open for absentee voting for the June 14 Primary on Saturday, June 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 
Free Breakfast
Pastor Pamela Richards of Beulah Baptist Church will be rescheduling the senior’s breakfast at Hardee’s in Allendale for June 28 from 8 until 10 a.m. Please sign up by calling Pastor Richards at (803) 474-5903. 
 
 
FUNDRAISERS
 
Chicken/Fish Dinner
New Hope UMC will have a chicken and fish dinner sale on Saturday, June 4 at Townsmen Hall (across from Subway) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dinners are $8 and include chicken or fish, baked beans, cole slaw, bread, cake and soda. Sandwiches are $4.
 
Watermelon Festival Pageant
The 2016 Hampton County Watermelon Festival Pageant will be held June 11 at the Varnville Recreation Center, 361 Pine Street, Varnville). Pageant begins promptly at 11 a.m. 
Beauty and Melon wear - $55. All applications, fees, and signature money must be turned in by June 4. Groups: Boys: 0-2, 3-5, 6-9; Girls: 0-11, 12-23, 2yr, 3, 4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-15, 16-19, 20 & up.

Bargain Sale
Barnwell First Baptist Church will hold another bargain sale on June 10 to 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 21 Allen Street (corner of Allen and Jackson streets). The sale will benefit the elevator fund. Bargains include: furniture, outdoor furniture, clothes for all ages, toys, household items, and more. 
 
Tee One Up Golf Tournament
The Tee One Up golf tournament will be held June 4 at Sweetwater Country Club. Cost is $50 per player. Tournament benefits the Uganda mission trip for Barnwell First Baptist.

D45 Summer Program
Are you looking for something for your children to do this summer? Barnwell District 45’s 21st Century Learning Center will offer a 2016 summer program for students attending Barnwell Primary School, Barnwell Elementary School and Guinyard-Butler Middle School from Monday, June 6 to Thursday, June 30. 
The program will be held Monday through Thursdays from 8 to 11 a.m. at Barnwell Elementary. Breakfast and lunch will be provided and bus transportation is available. Daily sessions include: Reading & Math Enrichment, Computer Literacy, Physical Fitness & Nutrition (YMCA), Character Education, STEAM Activities, Social & Emotional Development opportunities, and Field Studies.
Registration forms are available at BPS, BES and GBMS. Space is limited, so register your son/daughter as soon as possible.

Barnwell Library
Summer Reading Registration starts May 23 at the Barnwell County Public Library, Blackville Branch Library, and Williston Branch Library. Children in grades 5 and under can sign up to read 10 books or more this summer to receive a prize pack. Teens can choose one of our reading challenges to receive a prize pack.

D45 Band Booster
The next Barnwell District 45 Band Booster meeting is Tuesday, June 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the Barnwell High School band room.
Barnwell Soccer Club
The Barnwell Soccer Club will host its Annual Open Meeting on June 16 at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Barnwell County Library located on Burr Street.  The meeting is open to the public.  
 
 
 
REUNIONS
 
BHS 1970s Reunion
All graduates of Barnwell High School between 1970-1979 are invited to Sweetwater Country Club for a reunion on August 20 at 7 p.m.
Prepay cost by August 1 is $25 per person or $35 per couple. Cost at the door will be $35 per person or $50 per couple. Send check or money order with class year to: Wendy Gibson, 57 Wall Street, Barnwell, SC 29812. Music, heavy hors d’oeuvres and mixers will be provided. BYOB.
