Archery Tournament
Ready for hunting season? Join the Barnwell Area Homeschoolers for the 4-H & Archery Club’s Second Annual Adjust Your Aim Archery Tournament. It will be held July 30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sleytown Bowhunters’ Club (269 Pope and Young Road, which is off Reynolds Road, in Blackville). All ages are welcome. 
Entry fees are $5 for children (18 and under) and $10 for adults (19 and up). Ribbons and prizes will be awarded to the winners. Categories include: elementary, teens, traditional and compounds.

Canoe/Kayak Trip
The next South Fork of the Edisto River Canoe/Kayak River Trip sponsored by the Bamberg County Chamber of Commerce is Saturday, July 30. Launch will be at 9 a.m. at Brabham Landing - Cannon Bridge Rd. Take-out at a private landing. Bring your own boat and gear. Free shuttle service provided.

First Friday in Allendale
The First Friday Committee and Town of Allendale presents Allendale First Friday every first Friday from July to October. The next event is Friday, August 5 from 3-10 p.m. at the Allendale Community Center and Farmers Market. Bring a lawn chair. BINGO starts at 3 p.m. with gospel music at 5, Zumba at 6 and entertainment from 6-10 p.m. Vendors are welcome.

Youth Empowerment Expo
Mt. Calvary Women’s Auxiliary will host their second annual Youth Empowerment Expo at Denmark-Olar High gymnasium on Saturday, August 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be dynamic music, singing, praise dancing, gospel rap and poetry. All youth are invited. The event is free and includes refreshments.

Sales Tax Holiday Weekend
South Carolina’s Sales Tax Holiday weekend is less than one month away. From Friday, August 5 through Sunday, August 7, South Carolina shoppers can purchase a number of back-to-school items tax free. 
For one weekend every summer, specific items are exempt from the 6% state sales tax and any applicable local sales taxes. Some of the tax free items include paper, notebooks, pens and pencils, book bags, computers, clothing, shoes, bed linens, and bath towels. 
 
Family Fishing Clinic
A family fishing clinic will be held August 6 from 1-4 p.m. at Barnwell State Park (shelter 4). Clinics are designed to introduce the basics of fishing to the young and old. Learn how to tie fishing knows, rig rods, cast, fish and more.

Back to School Bash
Greater Faith Ministries, located at 179 Calhoun Street in Barnwell, will be sponsoring their “Back to School Bash  along with  “Health Awareness”on August 6 from 10 a.m. to noon. Children must come with an adult.

Back to School Bash
The Third Annual Unity in the Community Back to School Bash will be held Sunday, August 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Williston-Elko High School. Prayer at the flag pole will be held at 3:45 p.m. There will be popcorn, snow cones, fellowship, school supplies and fun. Event is sponsored by the W-E CommUNITY Coalition. 
 
Senior Center Open House
Are you a senior citizen age 60 and up? The Blackville Senior Center (old country club at 59 Callahan Circle, Blackville) will have open house on August 10 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Come take a tour and hear what they offer. Light refreshments will be served.
 
Coffee with a Cop 
The next Coffee with a Cop event is August 13 at 9 a.m. at McDonald’s in Barnwell (10405 Dunbarton Boulevard). Join your neighbors and police officers for coffee and conversation. There is no agenda or speeches, just a chance to ask questions, voice concerns and get to know the officers in your neighborhood.

Summer Movie Series
The Barnwell County YMCA (660 Joey Zorn Boulevard, Barnwell) will have a summer movie series on the lawn on the following Saturdays: August 13. Movie starts at dusk. Movie is free to YMCA members and their guests. Bring chairs and a blanket.

FUNDRAISERS
 
Bargain Sale 
Trinity Outreach Ministries International will have a bargain sale every Friday and Saturday in July at Trinity Vision Center (47 Allen Street, Barnwell, next to Cut Creations Barber Shop). Sale takes place every Friday from 3-6 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be new and used clothing, furniture, toys, household items, exercise equipment and more.
 
‘Paper Power’ Drive
Kelly Edwards Elementary School PTO in Williston is sponsoring a “Paper Power” drive during registration August 3-4 and the Meet and Greet event August 11. Parents/guardians are asked to donate a ream(s) of copy paper in exchange for a chance to win a $10 gift card. Parents will receive another chance to win by signing up for the PTO.

Band Camp Donations
The Barnwell Scarlet Knights are in need of donations of fruit, water and powdered Gatorade for band camp this year to help ensure the children stay hydrated in the intense heat while they practice. Camp begins July 25 and goes through August 11.

SCHOOL REGISTRATION
 
Kelly Edwards Elementary School
Registration for new and returning students will be held on August 3 from 8 a.m. to noon and August 4 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Kelly Edwards Elementary School. All students will be required to complete the registration form and the McKinney Vento form.
New students must have the following: S.C. Immunization Record (required), Official Birth Certificate (required) and a Social Security Card. You must also present two required Proofs of Residency - One must be a Current Tax Notice or Lease/Mortgage Agreement and the other can be any bill that shows a physical address such as but not limited to the following: Current power bill, water bill, satellite/cable bill, automobile tax/automobile registration card. 
Returning students must provide 2 Required Proofs of Residency. One must be a Current Tax Notice or Lease/Mortgage Agreement and the other can be any bill that shows a physical address such as but not limited to the following: Current power bill, water bill, satellite/cable bill, automobile tax/automobile registration card.
 
Barnwell Elementary School
Please stop by Barnwell Elementary School to register your child/children for the 2016-17 school year during the following times: Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There will be no registration fees for the 2016-17 school year. If you have not picked up your child’s report card for the 2015-16 school year, please stop by the main office.
 
Barnwell High School
Barnwell High will have registration on the following days from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. by class: freshmen on Monday, August 1, sophomores on Tuesday, August 2, juniors on Wednesday, August 3, and seniors on Thursday, August 4. 
Parking fees ($25) and outstanding balances may be paid at this time. All fees must be paid in order to park on campus. Freshmen are not allowed to drive to school. Seniors have the option to personalize their parking space for an additional $25. Fees must be paid with cash or money order. 
Summer hours for the guidance office are as follows: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on August 2. The guidance office will return on August 2. Students new to District 45 can register on August 3 and 4.
 
Barnwell Academy
Barnwell Academy has ongoing registration for the 2016-2017 school year every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. They offer preschool programs for 3 and 4 year olds and kindergarten through 6th grade.

Allendale County Council’s regular meeting is scheduled on Thursday, August 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the J.W. Wall Jr.’s Council Chambers at the Allendale County Courthouse. 
 
 
REUNIONS
 
Barnwell High 1970s Reunion
All graduates of Barnwell High School between 1970 and 1979 are invited to Sweetwater Country Club for a reunion on August 20 at 7 p.m.
Prepay cost by August 1 is $25 per person or $35 per couple. Cost at the door will be $35 per person or $50 per couple. Send check or money order with class year to: Wendy Gibson, 57 Wall Street, Barnwell, SC 29812.
