Witherspoon, Johnson wed
Elizabeth Jayne Witherspoon of Greer (formerly of Denmark) and Joshua Adam Johnson of Greer were united in marriage on June 9, 2016 at Falls Park on the Reedy River in Greenville.
Elizabeth is the daughter of Al and Jayne Johansen of Denmark and Herbie and Terry Witherspoon of Branchville. Joshua is the son of Jim and Elizabeth Massey of Greer and Henry and Marietta Johnson of Simpsonville.
Elizabeth was given in marriage by her mother, Jayne. The Rev. Lane Bembenek of Joy Lutheran Church in Moore officiated.
The bride wore a full-length sequined sheath gown in soft white, featuring cap sleeves, a scoop-neck back and chapel-length train. Her hair was styled in a simple chignon and held with a hand-crafted hair comb of Swarovski pearls and blue sapphire crystals, backed by vintage filigree. She carried a bouquet of Cala Lilies, coral spray roses and soft pink tulips with Queen Anne’s lace and eucalyptus.
A double ring ceremony on the bank of the Reedy River was complemented by the music of Ruelle, I Get to Love You, and Vance Joy’s Fire and Flood. The attendant guests congratulated the new couple who were escorted to their reception by an impromptu retinue of mallard ducks.
After the ceremony in the Old Mill Garden at Falls Parks, a wedding brunch was served at the River Lodge. Low-country shrimp and grits, breakfast strata, ham biscuits and fruit cones were served with an array of muffins and refreshing fruit punches. The three-tiered red velvet and cream cheese bridal cake was iced with white frosting and topped with fresh pink hydrangea blossoms.
The bride is a 2005 graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Master of Arts degree in elementary education. She currently teaches fourth grade at Welford Academy of Science and Technology in Welford.
The groom is a graduate of Greenville Technical College. He is employed as Lead Merchandising Support Associate with CarMax in Greenville.
After honeymooning in Hawaii and Las Vegas, the couple returned to reside in Greer.
