Circle Theatre Youth Wing Play

Come see the Circle Theatre Youth Wing perform “A Grimm Night for Hans Christian Andersen”. Watch as fairy tales come to life on stage with a twist that will keep you laughing the whole time.

Performances are February 17, 18, 24 & 25 at 8 p.m. and matinees on February 19 and 26 at 3 p.m. Ticket sales will begin soon at all normal outlets, including Evelyn’s Jewelry in downtown Barnwell and online.

Mother/Son Dance

Calling all moms, aunts, and grandmas! The Barnwell County Family YMCA will hold a Mother-Son Dance on Feb. 18 from 5-8 p.m. at the Gail Reyes Senior Center (11403 Ellenton St., Barnwell). There will be dinner, dancing and games. A photographer will also be available.

Register at the YMCA or by calling (803) 450-4151 by Wednesday, Feb. 15. Cost of the event is $25 for each couple and $5 for each additional person.

Museum’s Black History Program

The Barnwell County Museum will honor Barnwell and Allendale County black veterans of WWI and WWII this Sunday, February 19 at 3 p.m. at the museum’s Effie Mae Fuller Community Center, 9426 Marlboro Ave. (corner of Marlboro and Hagood Avenues), Barnwell. Refreshments will be served.

Mosquito Control Workshop

Clemson Extension will hold a Mosquito Control Workshop on Feb. 23 at 10 a.m. with lunch provided at the end. It will be held at the Edisto Research and Education Center (64 Research Road, Blackville). Topics will include: chemical and nonchemical control, integrated pest management, pollinator protection, mosquito biology, and mosquito borne diseases. This workshop is targeted to private applicators, noncommercial applicators, municipalities, homeowners/landowners, healthcare workers and school/daycare workers.

One hour recertification credit will be given to private applicators and commercial/noncommercial applicators (categories 3, 5, 7A or 8).

Food Giveaway

Angel Wings Food Giveaway will be Saturday, February 25 from 9 to 11 a.m at 150 Charles Street in Barnwell. First time applicants must bring ID.

Bamberg Black History Celebration

The Bamberg County Black History Month Celebration will be held Saturday, February 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hooten-Black House in Bamberg. There will be ethnic food, music, displays, demonstrations and praise dancing.

African-American Heritage Parade

The 5th Annual African-American Heritage Parade along Main Street in Williston will be Sunday, February 26 at 4 p.m. Parade is sponsored by Kelly Edwards Elementary School.

Parade entry fee is $5 while parade sponsorship is $25. Proceeds will benefit the cost of the annual mural and legacy artwork in the school’s hallway completed by the departing 5th grade students and other education initiatives of KEES.

Agatha Christie Play Auditions

Circle Theatre in Barnwell is looking to cast seven men and three women for Agatha Christie’s The Unexpected Guest. Auditions will be held Feb. 27, Feb. 28 and March 3 at 7 p.m. at the theatre on Academy Street.

Blackville Little Clean-Up

The Blackville Public Schools Alumni Association is proud to display pride in the town of Blackville by adopting a highway in the community located on Izlar Street Ext. from Valley Road to Hereford Road. They are in the process of planning a litter pick-up on Saturday, March 4 at 8 a.m. Please show your pride in the Blackville community by volunteering with this great community project.

Battlefield Tour

Rivers Bridge State Historic Site in Ehrhardt will give a guided battlefield tour followed by a guest speaker on March 4. Mrs. Karen Stokes will talk about the plight of civilians in General Sherman’s path. Meet at 1:30 p.m. at the Community Building for tour. Lecture will be at Community Building at 3 p.m.

Julius Daniels Blues Festival

The 8th Annual Julius Daniels Memorial Blues Festivalis Saturday, March 4 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Dane Theater, Denmark. It will feature Chris Ndeti & Company with Sollie Puddin’ Jennings as the opening act.

Tickets: Balcony is $10 for adults/ $5 for students; First Floor is $25 for adults/ $15 for students (Rows 1-4); $15 for adults/ $10 for students (Rows 5+).

Coffee with a Cop

Each One Reach One is hosting Coffee with a Cop on March 9 from 6-8 p.m. at Miller’s Bread Basket in Blackville. There are no agendas or speeches. The event is a chance to ask questions, voice concerns and get to know local officers.

AARP Driver Safety

AARP Driver Safety will be holding their next class on Thursday, March 23 at Generations Unlimited, located at 11403 Ellenton St., Barnwell. Class will begin at 9 a.m. and run until 1:00 p.m. You may bring a snack to have during class.

The cost for class materials is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members, cash or check (payable to AARP). Completion of this class may result in a discount on the participant’s automobile insurance.

Spaghetti Dinner

The Barnwell County Animal Shelter Foundation’s 3rd Annual Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser will be Saturday, Feb. 18 from 5-7:30 p.m. at Barnwell Presbyterian Church. Dine-in or take out. Plates are $8. Plates include spaghetti, garlic bread and dessert. Dine-in guests will receive a drink. They will have regular and whole wheat pasta, as well as regular meat and vegetarian sauces.

Blood Drive

A blood drive in memory of Dustin Richey will be held Sunday, Feb. 19 from noon to 5 p.m. in the Barnwell First Baptist Church activities building.

Valentine Gala

The 7th Annual Valentine Gala to benefit the Salkehatchie Arts Center in Allendale will be held Saturday, Feb. 25 from 7-11 p.m. at the B&G Civic Center in Allendale. There will be appetizers, entrees, desserts, open bar, music, live auction and silent auction.

Cost is $30/person or $50/couple. Table sponsorships are available. Tickets are available at the Salkehatchie Arts Center or from any SAC board member.

Chili/Baked Potato Bar

Bethany Baptist Church (9988 Dunbarton Boulevard, Barnwell) will have a Bottomless Chili Bowl/Baked Potato Bar on Sunday, Feb. 26 from noon to 2 p.m. following services. Proceeds support Garden City Rescue Mission. Cost is $10/person. Eat in or take out. Drink and cornbread are included. Desserts will be available for purchase.

Miss Blue Fire Pageant

Williston-Elko Blue Fire Drumline presents the Miss Blue Fire on Saturday, March 4 at 11 a.m. at Williston-Elko District Auditorium (12233 Main St., Williston). Deadline to register is Feb. 17. This is a fundraiser for the Blue Fire Drumline.

Warhorse Auction & Dance

Barnwell Warhorse Football will have its 2nd Annual Auction and Dance on March 25. Doors open at 6 p.m. at EL Bab Shrine Club (571 Patterson Mill Road, Barnwell) to benefit the Barnwell Warhorse Football program. There will be a live and silent auction, cash bar, catered meal, music, dancing, raffles, and door prizes. Tickets are $15. No one under is 21 permitted.

Parent Focus Meeting

A Parent Focus Meeting will be held Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. in the Blackville-Hilda High School cafeteria for parents of middle and high school students.

Blackville Hall of Fame

The Blackville Public Schools Alumni Associations, Inc. is forming a committee to establish a “Hall of Fame” for alumni & faculty that excelled in various fields during their tenure at the area schools.

Montessori Interest Meeting

A 3K Montessori Interest Meeting will be held March 2 in the Barnwell Primary School auditorium at 6 p.m. 3K Montessori Registration will be March 3-17. Barnwell Primary 4K/5K Registration

4K and 5K registration is underway at Barnwell Primary School. Please make sure to have the following documents at time of registration: SC Shot Record (Long white form from your doctor or health department, Long Form Certified Birth Certificate, Child’s Social Security Card, and two Current Dated Proofs of Residence in Parent/Guardian’s name and address (your lease agreement or tax receipt must be one of your proofs of residence and one other proof.)

•Friday Family Movies: Every other week we will show a family movie on Friday afternoons at 3:30 p.m. with free popcorn and drink. All ages are welcomed; children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult. Movies are as follows: “Pete’s Dragon” on Feb. 24.

•LEGO Club: Every third Wednesday of the month (Feb. 15) from 4-5 p.m. Join us for LEGO fun…bring your imagination we will provide the rest. For grades K-5th only.

•Preschool Story Time: Every Thursday at 11 a.m. Stories, songs and more for ages 3-5.

•Potluck Book Club: Monday, Feb. 27 from 3-4 p.m. Come and discuss what you are currently reading or one of your favorite books.

•Tech Help Tuesdays: Every Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. to noon come by the library with your personal devices (laptop, tablet, kindle, phone, etc.) and learn about the digital services the library has to offer and more.

Blackville Recreation Registration

Blackville Recreation Department began registration for Coaches Pitch, Girls Softball and Boys Baseball on Monday, Feb. 13 at Blackville Town Hall. Registration fee is $30. You must present Birth Certificate at time of registration.

MEETINGS

Allendale County Council

Allendale County Council Public Hearing and Regular Meeting is scheduled on Thursday, February 16 at 6 p.m. at the J.W. Wall Jr.’s Council Chambers at the Allendale County Courthouse.

SUPPORT GROUPS

Time for Recovery

Time for Recovery, a new support group, will meet every Sunday evening from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Gateway Church in Barnwell (8678 Marlboro Avenue).

If you are looking for more than drug/alcohol addiction recovery, this could be your time for healing. There is no better time than now. You are not alone. Recovery is possible.

Multiple Sclerosis Self-Help Group

A self-help group for people with multiple sclerosis and their families is held the first Thursday of every month at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church Family Life Center (2855 Columbia Road, Orangeburg). There is no cost to attend. Child care is not provided.
