Circle Theatre Youth Camp

Registration is underway for Circle Theatre’s youth summer camp. Either the full registration fee of $100/student or a $50 deposit must accompany the registration form to ensure your child’s place in the camp. Email dcknapp@bellsouth.net for a form.

Betty Bohmer is returning as the camp director and she has specially selected the following productions (both musicals): Week 1 (14-18-year-olds): July 10 - 16 will be doing “Once on This Island Jr”. Week 2 (8-13-year-olds) July 17 - 23 will be doing “Disney’s The Jungle Book KIDS”.

Auditions for the production’s principle roles will be held on Saturday, May 13 at the Circle Theatre, 325 Academy Street, Barnwell.

BINGO

BINGO will be held every first Thursday at the Allendale Community Center starting April 6 from 6-8 p.m. Other dates are June 2, July 7 and August 4. It is hosted by Minister Pookie Smith and Gwen Walker.

Allendale County Spring Fest

The Allendale County Spring Fest will be held Friday, April 7 from 5 to 10 p.m. at the Allendale Community Center & Farmer’s Market. There will be karaoke, food and music. Vendors are welcome. Bring lawn chairs. Entertainment: 5 p.m. Gospel, 8 p.m. Kids Movie Night, and live entertainment by Andy Kearse and Bryan Lindell.

Easter Egg Hunts

BARNWELL: The City of Barnwell’s Easter Egg Hunt will be held at Lemon Park at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 8. The event is free for children who are toddlers to age 12. The hunt will take place on multiple fields and children will be separated into appropriate age groups.

BLACKVILLE: The Blackville Easter Egg Hunt will be April 15 at 3 p.m. at Maloney Field.

FAIRFAX: Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church (1198 S. Charleston Ave., Fairfax) will have a free Easter egg hunt on Sunday, April 16 from 1-3 p.m. There will be food, characters, goody bags and photos.

LONG BRANCH: The Long Branch Fire Department’s Easter Egg Hunt and Fire Safety Day will be Saturday, April 8 at 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the fire department. The egg hunt will be at 12:30 p.m. There will also be food, obstacle course, bouncy houses, door prizes, Easter baskets, and lots of fun.

WILLISTON: The Town of Williston Easter Egg Hunt will be held at the Williston Town Park on Saturday, April 15 at 1 p.m. Age groups will be 3 and under, 4-6 and 7-10. For more info, contact Shannon Mundy at 803-300-1912.

YMCA: The Barnwell County Family YMCA Easter Egg Hunt will be April 15 from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 18 months to 12 years old.

Taste of Blackville

The 11th Annual Taste of Blackville will be held Saturday, April 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Blackville. It is sponsored by the Blackville Downtown Development Association. Vendor forms are available at Blackville Enterprise Bank or you may call Sylvia Quattlebaum at 803-284-2000 for more information. The cost of each space is $30. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

The Cumbee Center to Assist Abused Persons will present Walk a Mile in Her Shoes on April 20 at 6 p.m. in Williston. This is an international men’s march to stop rape, sexual assault and gender violence. Check-in will be at 5:45 p.m. on the walking trail on Main Street.

Food Giveaway

Angel Wings food giveaway will be Saturday, April 22 from 9-11 a.m. at 150 Charles Street in Barnwell. First time applicants must bring ID.

Barnwell Spring Fling

Join the Barnwell Development Association and City of Barnwell Parks and Recreation for an evening of entertainment and activities on Thursday, April 27 from 5-7 p.m. on the Circle for the annual Spring Fling. Musical entertainment will be provided by James ‘Bo’ Gardner. There will also be a quarter carnival with games and prizes.

Barnwell Clean-Up Day

The City of Barnwell’s annual Pick Up With Pride clean-up day will be Saturday, April 29 from 8 a.m. to noon. Groups of all sizes as well as individuals are encouraged to participate. Those with trucks to haul bags are needed. Supplies will be provided. Meet on the Circle. T-shirts will be given while supplies last.

Springfest Beauty Pageant

The 2017 Miss/Master Springfest Beauty Pageant in honor of the Allendale County “Cooter” Festival will be held April 29 at the B&G Civic Center (4015 Allendale/Fairfax Hwy., Allendale). Supreme Package is $60 (Beauty, Spring Wear, best hair, eyes, smile). Wear any dress/tux of choice, but natural rules will be followed for hair/makeup.

FUNDRAISERS

Breakfast/Photos with Easter Bunny

Come to Winfield Heights Baptist Church in Williston on Saturday, April 8 from 9-11 a.m. and enjoy an all-you-can-eat breakfast and have your picture taken with the Easter Bunny. Breakfast cost is $8 for adults and $3 for children under age 12. Children under 5 are free. Pictures are $5.

All money raised will help with expenses for the South American Mission Team.

BBQ Chicken/Ribs

The Brothers of Brickyard Lodge will be selling barbecue chicken and ribs on Saturday, April 8 starting at 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot of IGA in Barnwell.

Yard Sale

Kayla Jo Nix is holding a yard sale fundraiser to raise funds for her medical mission trip to Honduras this summer through Volunteers In Medical Missions, a non-profit group out of Seneca. The yard sale will be at 7 a.m. on Saturday, April 8 at 14662 Highway 78, Williston.

Bargain Sale

Coming May 4, 5 and 6 is the First Baptist “Bargain Sale” to benefit “The Elevator Fund” at 21 Allen Street in Barnwell. There will be furniture, household items, books, toys, clothes for the entire family, outdoor items, antiques, collectibles and much more. The VIP Sale will be Thursday, May 4 from 5-8 p.m. with a $10 donation at the door, with lots of door prizes and your chance for first pick. They will be open Friday from 8 until 5 and Saturday from 9 until 4 with no donation required.

EDUCATION

Kelly Edwards Elementary 4K&5K

4K and 5K Registration at Kelly Edwards Elementary will be held from April 3-14 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. each day.

Please bring the following: South Carolina Immunization Record, Official Birth Certificate (no short form birth certificate), Two Required Proofs of Residency (1 must be a Current Tax Notice or Lease/Mortgage Agreement and the other item can be any proof that shows a physical address such as but not limited to the following: Current power bill, water bill, satellite/cable bill, automobile tax/automobile registration card), Medicaid card (4K only) and Proof of income such as paycheck stub or W2 (4K only).

Your child must be 4 years on or before Sept. 1, 2017 to register for 4-year-old kindergarten. Your child must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2017 to register for 5-year-old kindergarten.

Barnwell Primary 4K&5K

4K and 5K registration is underway at Barnwell Primary School. Please make sure to have the following documents at time of registration: SC Shot Record (Long white form from your doctor or health department, Long Form Certified Birth Certificate, Child’s Social Security Card, and two Current Dated Proofs of Residence in Parent/Guardian’s name and address (your lease agreement or tax receipt must be one of your proofs of residence and one other proof.)

4K registration ends soon so make sure to get your child enrolled as soon as possible. They will do screening April 13 and April 14. Please get your packets in soon. Register early to avoid waiting in long lines on the first day of school.

Barnwell Lions Club Scholarship

The Barnwell Lions Club will be offering scholarships to selected Barnwell County graduating seniors who will be furthering their education through colleges or technical schools this year. The value of the scholarships will range from $250 to $750. Recipients will be chosen by the Barnwell Lions Club Scholarship Committee based on need, grades, community service and extracurricular activities.

Those Barnwell County graduating seniors desiring to apply may pick up an application from their high school guidance counselor, or may call the following Lions for information: T.O. Sanders at 259-3469 or Dan Packer at 259-3912. Deadline for applying is April 10.

New Jerusalem CDC 4K

New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church Child Development Center is now enrolling 4K students for the 2017-2018 school year. Students must be four years old on or before Sept. 1, 2017. Applications are available at the center located at 9303 Marlboro Avenue, Barnwell.

•Preschool Story Time: Every Thursday at 11 a.m. Stories, songs and more for ages 3-5.

•Teen Anime & Manga Club (New Event): Thursday, April 20 from 7-8:30 p.m. Share in the love of Japanese comics and animation. All teens in grades 7-12 are welcome. Snacks provided.

•Adult Coloring Class: Monday, April 10 from 3-4 p.m. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon of creativity. Supplies provided.

•Friday Family Movies: Every other week we will be showing a family movie on Friday afternoons at 3:30 p.m. with free popcorn and drink. All ages are welcomed; children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult. Movies are as follows: “Surf’s Up 2” on April 7, “The Lorax” on April 21.

•LEGO Club: Every third Wednesday (April 19) of the month from 4-5 p.m. Join us for LEGO fun. Bring your imagination, we will provide the rest. For grades K-5th.

•Lunch & a Movie: Bring your lunch on Thursday, April 13 at 1 p.m. and enjoy a showing of Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Coffee and dessert provided.

•Potluck Book Club: Monday, April 24 from 3-4 p.m. Come and discuss what you are currently reading or one of your favorite books. Snacks provided.

•Tech Help Tuesdays: Every Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. to noon come by the library with your personal devices (laptop, tablet, kindle, phone, etc.) and learn about the digital services the library has to offer and more.

Barnwell Co. Voter Registration

The Barnwell County Voter Registration and Election Board meets the second Monday (April 10) of the month at 6 p.m. in the conference room at election office.

Barnwell County GOP

The Barnwell County Republican Party’s 2017 County Convention will be Monday, April 10 at 7 p.m. at the Barnwell County Courthouse. Business will include the election of County Republican Officers and the selection of delegates and alternates to the Republican Party State Convention.
