Easter Egg Hunts

BLACKVILLE: The Blackville Easter Egg Hunt will be Saturday, April 15 at 10 a.m. in downtown Blackville during the Taste of Blackville festival. Meet at the Blackville Downtown Development Association tent for details.

COPE: Cana of Galilee International Pentecostal Holiness Church (1738 Hudson Road, Cope) will have an Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 15 from 2-4 p.m. There will be pizza, games and fellowship.

FAIRFAX: Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church (1198 S. Charleston Ave., Fairfax) will have a free Easter egg hunt on Sunday, April 16 from 1-3 p.m. There will be food, characters, goody bags and photos.

WILLISTON: The Town of Williston Easter Egg Hunt will be held at the Williston Town Park on Saturday, April 15 at 1 p.m. Age groups will be 3 and under, 4-6 and 7-10. For more info, contact Shannon Mundy at 803-300-1912.

YMCA: The Barnwell County Family YMCA Easter Egg Hunt will be April 15 from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 18 months to 12 years old.

Taste of Blackville

The 11th Annual Taste of Blackville will be held Saturday, April 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Blackville. It is sponsored by the Blackville Downtown Development Association. Vendor forms are available at Blackville Enterprise Bank or you may call Sylvia Quattlebaum at 803-284-2000 for more information. The cost of each space is $30. Youth Ministry Workshop

Macedonia Baptist Association presents a Youth Ministry Workshop on April 15 at 10 a.m. with guest speaker Joe Thomas Jr. of the Green Bay Packers. Other presenters include Dr. Tywana Branch, Ms. Johnell Jones, Dr. Shawn Johnson and Rev. Benjamin Green. Workshop will take place at Shrub Branch Missionary Baptist Church (860 Still Family Farm Road, Blackville).

NAACP Woman of Year

The Dunbarton-Williston Branch NAACP is having their Woman of the Year program on April 15 at 5 p.m. at Spring Branch Baptist Church in Williston.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

The Cumbee Center to Assist Abused Persons will present Walk a Mile in Her Shoes on April 20 at 6 p.m. in Williston. This is an international men’s march to stop rape, sexual assault and gender violence. Check-in will be at 5:45 p.m. on the walking trail on Main Street.

Food Giveaway

Angel Wings food giveaway will be Saturday, April 22 from 9-11 a.m. at 150 Charles Street in Barnwell. First time applicants must bring ID.

Free Exercise Event

Rivers Bridge State Historic Site (180 State Park Road, Ehrhardt) is offering an opportunity to help the community get in shape. They have staff to assist with caring for children while parents get needed time to exercise at no cost. A ranger-led exercise hike on the 1.4-mile trail will be done on April 22 at 9 a.m. Meet at the community building. Donations are appreciated.

Barnwell Spring Fling

Join the Barnwell Development Association and City of Barnwell Parks and Recreation for an evening of entertainment and activities on Thursday, April 27 from 5-7 p.m. on the Circle for the annual Spring Fling. Musical entertainment will be provided by James ‘Bo’ Gardner. There will also be a quarter carnival with games and prizes.

Barnwell Clean-Up Day

The City of Barnwell’s annual Pick Up With Pride clean-up day will be Saturday, April 29 from 8 a.m. to noon. Groups of all sizes as well as individuals are encouraged to participate. Those with trucks to haul bags are needed. Supplies will be provided. Meet on the Circle. T-shirts will be given while supplies last.

Prescription Drug Take-Back

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at CVS in Barnwell and the Barnwell County Sheriff’s Office. No syringes or liquids will be accepted.

Springfest Beauty Pageant

The 2017 Miss/Master Springfest Beauty Pageant in honor of the Allendale County “Cooter” Festival will be held April 29 at the B&G Civic Center (4015 Allendale/Fairfax Hwy., Allendale). Supreme Package is $60 (Beauty, Spring Wear, best hair, eyes, smile). Wear any dress/tux of choice, but natural rules will be followed for hair/makeup.

FUNDRAISERS

BBQ Chicken & Ribs

Union United Methodist Church will be selling BBQ chicken and rib sandwiches on Saturday, April 15 starting at 10:30 a.m. in the Barnwell IGA parking lot.

FFA Plant Sale

The FFA students at the Barnwell County Career Center are selling plants they grew. Though some of the flowering plants are still slightly behind, they have some beautiful vegetable and herb plants ready to sell this week along with some flowering items such as red geraniums, zinnias, and marigolds. Preview sale days are April 12-13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with the official kickoff on April 25 at 9 a.m. They will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Proceeds will be used by students to attend upcoming activities such as Summer Camp, State FFA Convention, and National FFA Convention.

Dean Scarbeary Golf Tournament

Swiss Krono will sponsor its annual Dean Scarbeary Memorial Golf Tournament on Saturday, May 27 at 10 a.m. at Sweetwater Country Club to raise money for the Animal Advocates in Barnwell. The tournament is named in memory of Dean Scarbeary, a Swiss Krono employee who was the driving force of the company’s annual golf outing but died in a house fire in 2014.

Golfers may sign up individually or as a team. Sign in will be at 9 a.m. and shotgun start at 10 a.m. Green fees, carts, snacks, beverages, one raffle ticket, three mulligans, and lunch will be included in the fee - $75 for individuals or $300 for a team. Deadline to sign up is May 21.

Bargain Sale

Coming May 4, 5 and 6 is the First Baptist “Bargain Sale” to benefit “The Elevator Fund” at 21 Allen Street in Barnwell. There will be furniture, household items, books, toys, clothes for the entire family, outdoor items, antiques, collectibles and much more. The VIP Sale will be Thursday, May 4 from 5-8 p.m. with a $10 donation at the door, with lots of door prizes and your chance for first pick. They will be open Friday from 8 until 5 and Saturday from 9 until 4 with no donation required.

Team Zeta Golf Tournament

The 8th Annual Team Zeta golf tournament will be Saturday, April 29 at Sweetwater Country Club in Barnwell to honor and remember the life of Zeta Christian Brabham. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with shotgun start at 9 a.m. Team Zeta continues its mission to help other special needs families in the community. Hole ($50) and event ($250) sponsorships are being offered for the event. Deadline is April 20.

Entry fee for teams is $300 and includes green fees, cart, beverages, lunch, and mulligans. Tournament is limited to 20 teams. Minimum $150 deposit is required to hold a spot. Format will be four-man captain’s choice.

EDUCATION

Kelly Edwards Elementary 4K&5K

4K and 5K Registration at Kelly Edwards Elementary will be held from April 3-14 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. each day.

Please bring the following: South Carolina Immunization Record, Official Birth Certificate (no short form birth certificate), Two Required Proofs of Residency (1 must be a Current Tax Notice or Lease/Mortgage Agreement and the other item can be any proof that shows a physical address such as but not limited to the following: Current power bill, water bill, satellite/cable bill, automobile tax/automobile registration card), Medicaid card (4K only) and Proof of income such as paycheck stub or W2 (4K only).

Your child must be 4 years on or before Sept. 1, 2017 to register for 4-year-old kindergarten. Your child must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2017 to register for 5-year-old kindergarten.

Barnwell Primary 4K&5K

4K and 5K registration is underway at Barnwell Primary School. Please make sure to have the following documents at time of registration: SC Shot Record (Long white form from your doctor or health department, Long Form Certified Birth Certificate, Child’s Social Security Card, and two Current Dated Proofs of Residence in Parent/Guardian’s name and address (your lease agreement or tax receipt must be one of your proofs of residence and one other proof.)

4K registration ends soon so make sure to get your child enrolled as soon as possible. They will do screening April 13 and April 14. Please get your packets in soon. Register early to avoid waiting in long lines on the first day of school.

Barnwell Library

•Preschool Story Time: Every Thursday at 11 a.m. Stories, songs and more for ages 3-5.

•Teen Anime & Manga Club (New Event): Thursday, April 20 from 7-8:30 p.m. Share in the love of Japanese comics and animation. All teens in grades 7-12 are welcome. Snacks provided.

•Friday Family Movies: Every other week we will be showing a family movie on Friday afternoons at 3:30 p.m. with free popcorn and drink. All ages are welcomed; children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult. Movies are as follows: “The Lorax” on April 21.

•LEGO Club: Every third Wednesday (April 19) of the month from 4-5 p.m. Join us for LEGO fun. Bring your imagination, we will provide the rest. For grades K-5th.

•Lunch & a Movie: Bring your lunch on Thursday, April 13 at 1 p.m. and enjoy a showing of Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Coffee and dessert provided.

•Potluck Book Club: Monday, April 24 from 3-4 p.m. Come and discuss what you are currently reading or one of your favorite books. Snacks provided.

•Tech Help Tuesdays: Every Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. to noon come by the library with your personal devices (laptop, tablet, kindle, phone, etc.) and learn about the digital services the library has to offer and more.

The Chavis-New Family Reunion will be held May 6 at the Barnwell State Park Communtiy Building, 223 State Park Rd., Blackville. Dinner will be served at 1 p.m. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish and a drink. Plates, cups, napkins, spoons, forks and ice will be provided. Donations will be taken up to help cover the cost of the building rental. Anyone wanting to bring an old family photo to be displayed are welcome.

Allendale County Council Public Hearing and Regular Meeting will be Thursday, April 20 at 6 p.m. at the J.W. Wall Jr.’s Council Chambers at the Allendale County Courthouse.

Barnwell District 45’s meeting scheduled for April 13 has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 27 at 7 p.m.
