Agatha Christie Play
Who killed Richard Warwick?
Come to Circle Theatre of Barnwell to find out as they produce Agatha Christie’s murder mystery “The Unexpected Guest” on May 12 and 13 at 8 p.m. with matinee on May 14 at 3 p.m.
The audience is invited to play along and try to figure out who is the murderer. A vote will be taken at intermission. A drawing of all correct answers will be held at the end for one person to win a season ticket to next season’s plays.
Tickets are $12 in advance at Evelyn’s in Barnwell or www.ctug.bpt.me. Tickets at the door are $15.
Relay for Life
Relay for Life of Allendale & Barnwell Counties will be Friday, May 12 from 6 p.m. to midnight on the Allendale-Fairfax High School football field.
Confederate Memorial Day
The Rivers Bridge Confederate Memorial Association presents the 141st Commemoration of Confederate Memorial Day on Friday, May 12 at the Memorial Grounds on Rivers’ Bridge State Historic Site near Ehrhardt. The program will begin at 10 a.m. with a presentation of period music, followed at 11 a.m. by speakers and commemorative activities dedicated to the memory of the Confederate soldiers who fought and died at the Battle of Rivers’ Bridge in February of 1865. After the ceremonies, a BBQ dinner on the grounds by B&D Barbecue will be available for purchase.
Patriotic speeches will be followed by rifle and cannon salutes from uniformed Confederate re-enactors, along with a solemn ceremony of wreaths being placed on the graves of the soldiers from the War Between the States and other veterans that are buried in the Memorial Grounds.
A special exhibit of artifacts from the South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum will be on display at the Rivers’ Bridge Community Center.

The Work the Runway Fashion Show, which is powered by the I Am I.S.A.A.C. Foundation, will be May 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Blackville Community Center (19464 Solomon Blatt Ave., Blackville). This event will be held to show high school students the appropriate attire to wear to those interviews, as well as a brief discussion on the Do’s and Don’ts during the interview process, and strategies to tackle the “difficult” interview questions from the interviewer.
The City of Barnwell’s Parks and Recreation is hosting a fishing derby on Saturday, May 13 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lake Edgar Brown. Cost is $20/person. All participants must pre-register before fishing. This is for shore anglers only. There are 15 tagged fish with one grand prize winner.

DNR’s annual Fishing Rodeo will be held Saturday, May 13 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Barnwell Fish Hatchery (10095 Dunbarton Boulevard) behind the DNR office. Anyone 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Bring your own pole (no reels). Bail will be provided. No adult fishing. Prizes will be awarded. Free hotdogs and drinks available. Event is handicap accessible.

Mothers Arise Workshop
Mt. Everest Worship Center will host a free Mothers Arise Workshop on Saturday, May 13 at the Barnwell County Library’s Community Room. Workshop time is from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. This workshop is for mothers with minor children from toddlers to teenagers who may feel frustrated and uncertain at times while raising their children. It is designed to encourage and uplift mothers while providing insightful information to help in the process. There will be various workshop topics, giveaways, lunch and door prizes.

Day of Service at State Park
Boy Scout Troop 392 will host a Yamassee District Day of Service to clean up tornado damage at the Barnwell State Park on Saturday, May 13 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. You do not have to be a scout to help because this is open to the community. Bring gloves, rakes, loppers, wheelbarrow, and water bottles. Lunch will be provided.

A Managing My Money financial workshop will be held May 16 at the Barnwell County Health Dept. (11015 Ellenton St., Barnwell). Session one is from 9-11 a.m. while session two is from 1-3 p.m. This is open to anyone living in Allendale, Barnwell and Bamberg counties.

Free Spay/Neuter Service
Fido Fixers, a mobile spay/neuter clinic, will be in Williston on May 17 offering free spay/neuter services to the first 10 pets to be signed up. Additional services, such as rabies vaccine, microchip and heartworm test, will be available for a fee.

The Allendale County Schools Board of Trustees invites the public to a “Meet and Greet” for Interim Superintendent Dr. Secaida D. Howell on Wednesday, May 17 from 5-7 p.m. at Allendale-Fairfax High School.
Music & Arts Festival
The Blackville Music & Arts Festival will be May 19-20 in downtown Blackville. Live performances include the Terence Young Experiment and Big Mike of Making the Band 4.

Savannah River Classic
The Savannah River Classic Fishing Tournament will be May 20 on the Savannah River in Georgia and South Carolina. Categories are Bass, Catfish, Panfish (Redbreast, Crappie, Bream, Shellcracker) and Aggregate for Cash Prizes. Men’s, Ladies, Youth, and Bank Fishing divisions available.

The Captain’s Fish Dinner is Friday, May 19 at 6:30 p.m. for anglers and sponsors. Come early to register, or to sign waiver forms if you registered online. Fish fry tickets available to the general public for $8.
Tournament starts May 20 at sunrise. Weigh-in begins at 3 p.m., ending at 5 p.m. with the award ceremony. Family activities are available to the public from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Lower Savannah River Alliance Education Center (12049 Burton’s Ferry Hwy., Allendale).
Edisto River Tour
The Bamberg County Chamber of Commerce’s next South Fork of the Edisto River Canoe/Kayak River Trip is Saturday, May 20. They will be launching at 10 a.m. This trip is about three miles and will start at Claudes Landing, which is on Claudes Landing Rd. off of Charleston Augusta Hwy. between Sweden on U.S. Hwy. 321 & Finland on Country Club Rd. Slithery Snakes Program
A “Slithery Snakes” program will be held May 27-28 from 1 to 2 p.m. each day at Shelter 4 at the Barnwell State Park in Blackville. This is a free event to educate about the common native venomous and non-venomous snakes in South Carolina. There will be snakes to hold or touch.
Daughters of the King will be selling fish sandwiches, fish dinners and chicken sandwiches on May 11 and 12 on Hwy. 3 in Blackville.

Garden Club Plant Sale
The Ivy Garden Club’s annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale will be May 13 from 8 a.m. to noon at the corner of Main and Elko streets in Williston (Folk Funeral Home parking lot).
FFA Plant Sale
The FFA students at the Barnwell County Career Center are selling plants they grew. They have vegetable and herb to sell along with flowering items. They will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Proceeds will be used by students to attend upcoming activities such as Summer Camp, State FFA Convention, and National FFA Convention.

Dean Scarbeary Golf Tournament
Swiss Krono will sponsor its annual Dean Scarbeary Memorial Golf Tournament on Saturday, May 27 at 10 a.m. at Sweetwater Country Club to raise money for the Animal Advocates in Barnwell. The tournament is named in memory of Dean Scarbeary, a Swiss Krono employee who was the driving force of the company’s annual golf outing but died in a house fire in 2014.
Golfers may sign up individually or as a team. Sign in will be at 9 a.m. and shotgun start at 10 a.m. Green fees, carts, snacks, beverages, one raffle ticket, three mulligans, and lunch will be included in the fee - $75 for individuals or $300 for a team. Deadline to sign up is May 21.

The First Baptist “Bargain Sale” to benefit “The Elevator Fund” has been extended two more weekends at 21 Allen Street in Barnwell. Prices will be discounted on Friday, May 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, May 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. as well as Friday, May 19 and Saturday, May 20 during the same hours. There will be furniture, household items, books, toys, clothes for the entire family, outdoor items, antiques, collectibles and much more.
DTC Parent Night
If you are worried about how you will pay for college for your high school son or daughter, plan on attending Denmark Technical College’s Parent Night to learn about the Dual Enrollment program. You will receive information on how your high school student can attend college while still in high school and earn college credit at no cost. It will be held at the DTC Quick Jobs Center in the County Library Building at 301 Main Street North, Allendale on Thursday, May 11 at 6:30 p.m. All interested parents and high school students are invited to attend.

Blackville-Hilda Sports Physicals
Sports physicals for Blackville-Hilda athletes playing in the 2017-2018 season will be Friday, May 12 starting at 8 a.m. There is no cost to the athlete. Pick up a form from Coach Beasley, Coach Berry or the middle or high school offices prior to May 12.
D19 Teacher of Year Gala
The Blackville-Hilda Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year Gala will be May 18 at 6 p.m. at the Blackville Community Center. Cost is a $20 donation.
Arts Council Scholarship
The Barnwell County Arts Council is currently accepting applications for the Jean Orr Belcher Scholarship. This one-time $500 scholarship will be awarded to a Barnwell County student who plans to pursue a career in the Arts.

The Barnwell District 45 School Board’s regular meeting is Thursday, May 11 at 7 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at Barnwell Elementary School.
Barnwell County Retired Educator Meeting Monday, May 15 at 2 p.m. at the Barnwell County Library (40 Burr St., Barnwell). All retired teachers and staff from Barnwell, Blackville and Williston schools are invited to attend.

Allendale County Council’s regular meeting will be Thursday, May 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the J.W. Wall Jr.’s Council Chambers at the Allendale County Courthouse.
First Steps Board
The Barnwell County First Steps Partnership Board encourages the public to submit nominations to the Barnwell County First Steps Board of Trustees. Nominees should reside or be employed in Barnwell County. They need people from the business and faith communities.
Nominees should be individuals with resources, skills, knowledge, and interest in improving the readiness of young children for school. Nominations should be submitted to Barnwell County First Steps Office, 5961 Lartigue Street, Blackville, SC, 29817. Nomination forms and additional information are available from Barnwell County First Steps Office, or by calling (803) 284-3160. Deadline for nominations is May 17.
Allendale County School Board
The Allendale County School Board meets Monday, May 22 at 6 p.m. Closed session will be held from 6-7 p.m. with the public portion to begin at 7 p.m. at the Allendale-Fairfax Middle/High School multi-purpose room.
Coerver Coaching will be putting on a camp for soccer players from ages 9-18. The camp will be held at the Snelling soccer field every Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. between May 31 and July 21. There are three options available.
