Farmers Markets

Barnwell: The Fuller Park Farmers Market is open Tuesdays and Thursdays through August from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fuller Park (9987 Dunbarton Boulevard, Barnwell). There will be fruits, vegetables, baked goods, eggs, artisans and crafters. There is no fee to be a vendor.

Elko: The Elko Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. across from the Elko Post Office and Town Hall. The season lasts until October. Vendor fee is $5.

Anyone interested in being a vendor at the Elko market can call Jeanne Johnson at (803) 300-4642.

Recreation on Wheels

Recreation on Wheels is centered on bringing recreation programs to Lemon and Fuller parks. Children will participate in fun recreational activities, including arts and crafts, group initiatives and team building, water games, sports and more. Lunch is provided.

Monday dates are: July 17, 24 and 31 at Lemon Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Thursday dates are: July 13, 20 and 27 at Fuller Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Theatre Youth Camp Plays

Youth from Circle Theatre of Barnwell’s summer camp will present public performances over the next two weekends. Teens will perform “Once on this Island” on Friday, July 14 at 6 p.m., Saturday, July 15 at 3 and 6 p.m. and Sunday, July 16 at 3 p.m. The younger children will present “Jungle Book KIDS” on Friday, July 21 at 6 p.m., Saturday, July 22 at 3 and 6 p.m. and Sunday, July 23 at 3 p.m.

Ticket prices are $10 and can be purchased at Evelyn’s on the Circle in Barnwell or online at http://m.bpt.me/event/3040048. Ticket sales will start on Tuesday of each week.

State Park’s Ultimate Outsiderfest

Ultimate Outsiderfest will take place Thursday, July 20 through Monday, July 24. This is a five-day celebration of our 500-plus Ultimate Outsiders who have visited all 47 South Carolina State Parks. All 47 state parks are participating in different ways including discounts, free rentals, behind the scenes tours and more!

Come out to Barnwell State Park to learn about the South Carolina State Park’s Ultimate Outsider Program.

Book Giveaways

Barnwell District 45 is holding book giveaways on the following dates: July 25 at the Barnwell YMCA, July 27 at Litchfield Recreation Building, and July 13 at Barnwell Arms Apartments. Each event begins at 11 a.m. and ends at noon.

Kids in the Kitchen

Kids in the Kitchen, presented by the Barnwell Parks and Recreation Department, is a hands-on kitchen series to introduce children to the tasty world of cooking, including measuring, mixing, mashing and smashing. Cost is $15 per session. The remaining session is July 18 and 20 (Ages 8-12 from 1 to 2 p.m., Ages 13-18 from 2 to 3 p.m.).

Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic

The Fido Fixers mobile spay/neuter clinic will return to Williston First Baptist Church on July 12 offering half-price surgeries. This is provided by the Humane Society.

Blackville Senior Food Giveaway

Senior citizens in need of free nutritious food can apply for assistance through the Commodity Supplemental Food Program. Bring proof of income and identification on July 14 to 59 Callahan Circle in Blackville from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The program provides free monthly nutrition information and nutritious food. Other dates this year will be August 11, September 15, October 13, November 10 and December 15.

Belated Father’s Day Event

The S.C. Regional Housing Authority #3 and Beaufort Housing Authority are partnering to host the annual Belated Father’s Day Event on Friday, July 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Barnwell Elementary School (10524 Marlboro Ave., Barnwell). The theme is “Building Healthy Families”.

Blackville Community Event

Each One Reach One in Blackville is sponsoring a Bringing the Community Together event on July 23 from 4-7 p.m. at Maloney Field in Blackville. There will be free food, slip and slide, and the fire department will spray water. Kids need to wear bathing suits. Bring tents and chairs.

Nigel & The Favor Reunion Concert

Nigel & The Favor Ensemble will present their reunion weekend on Saturday, July 29 at the Blackville Community Center (19464 Solomon Blatt Ave., Blackville). This is a free event. Family Day will be held from 8 a.m. to noon with games, vendors, children’s fashion show, fellowship and refreshments. The reunion concert will be at 6 p.m.

FUNDRAISERS

Spaghetti Dinner

A spaghetti dinner fundraiser will be held on July 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4-8 p.m. at Calvary Chapel (12917 Main Street, Williston) to benefit the animals of the Williston community & others that come to the Fido Fixers mobile spay/neuter clinic. You can eat in of take out. Tickets are being sold in advance, but you can also buy one at the door. Plates are $8 and include spaghetti, salad, bread and a slice of cake.

Bamberg School Supply Bash

The 2nd Annual Back Pack & School Supply Bash sponsored by Bamberg County First Steps will be Saturday, July 29 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School Gymnasium.

The Town of Kline will sponsor its 5th annual backpack giveaway on Saturday, August 5 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Kline Fire Department, located at the caution light in Kline.

Williston Back to School Bash

The 4th Annual Unity in the Community Back to School Bash will be held on Sunday, August 6 from 4-6 p.m. at Williston-Elko High School. Prayer will be held at 3:45 p.m. at the flag pole. There will be school supplies, fellowship, popcorn, snow cones and more. This is sponsored by the Williston-Elko CommUNITY Coalition.

Blackville Back to School Bash

The Blackville Community Back-to-School Bash will be held on August 12 at the Crystal Jenkins Memorial Walking Track area from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All Blackville-Hilda High School alumni are asked to get involved. The committee will also partner with all B-H Public Schools employees, local churches, businesses, and organizations. The next planning meeting will be held on Monday, July 17 at Macedonia Elementary at 3 p.m.

Barnwell Library

• Teen Anime & Manga Club: Thursday, July 27 from 7-8:30 p.m. Share in the love of Japanese comics and animation. Teens in grades 7-12. Snacks provided.

• Adult Coloring: Mondays, July 17 at 3 p.m. Enjoy a relaxing hour of creativity. Supplies provided.

• Friday Family Movies: Every other week we will be showing a family movie on Friday afternoons at 3:30 p.m. with free popcorn and drink. All ages are welcome; children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult. Movies are: “The LEGO Batman Movie” on July 14 and “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” on July 28.

• LEGO Club: Third Wednesday (July 19) of the month at 3 p.m. Bring your imagination we will provide the rest. For grades K-5th only.

• Preschool Story Time: Thursdays, July 13, 20 and 27 at 11 a.m. Stories, songs and more for ages 3-5.

MEETINGS Barnwell District 45 School Board The Barnwell District 45 School Board will meet Thursday, July 13 at 7 p.m. in the conference room of the district office (770 Hagood Avenue, Barnwell). Allendale County Council Allendale County Council will meet Thursday, July 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the J.W. Wall Jr.’s Council Chambers at the Allendale County Courthouse. SCHOOL REGISTRATION Barnwell High School Registration is underway for the 2017-2018 school year at Barnwell High from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following days: Monday, July 31 for freshmen, Tuesday, August 1 for sophomores, Wednesday, August 2 for juniors and Thursday, August 3 for seniors. New students register on August 3. Parking decal is $25. Seniors have option to personalize their parking space for additional $25. All fees must be paid with cash or money order. Summer hours for guidance are as follows: 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. on July 18, 25 and August 1. Guidance office returns on August 2.
