Dr. Clark Retirement Party
Uni-Health Post Acute Care of Barnwell will host a retirement party for Dr. Clark on Aug. 30 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
The American Cancer Society invites cancer patients in Barnwell, Bamberg, Allendale or Hampton counties to signup for the Look Good Fell Better session on Monday, Sept. 16. This free session will be held at the Barnwell City Hall at 6 p.m.
Cosmetology professionals will help patients with makeup application, tips for wig selection and wig care, dry skin, discolored nails, scarves, turbans and hats.

Third Thursday returns Sept. 19 from 5-7 p.m. in downtown Barnwell with entertainment by V&N Entertainment (Virginia Nettles and Neal Richardson).
Residents are encouraged to help "Stuff the Station" (old police station) with needed supplies for local teachers. Supplies can also be brought before Sept. 19 to city hall. Items needed include: Copy Paper, Legal Note Pads, Dry Erase Markers, Sharpie Permanent Markers, Crayola Markers, Scotch Tape refills, Tape Dispensers, File Folders
In partnership with the United Way, a health fair will be held. Several local medical groups will have health information and some will provide simple health checks, like blood pressure.
A Bike Rodeo will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. to noon at Snelling Park. All ages can bring their bikes. There will be bike safety and fit checks, bike safety presentation, bike obstacle course, and goodie bags.

The 2013 Hilda Gopher Festival will kick off Friday, Sept. 20, at 6:30 p.m. with a street dance and other entertainment at the Hilda Depot. It continues Saturday, Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the depot.
There will be a bake sale at 9 a.m., a "Decorate Your Trike, Bike, Wagon" contest to be judged at 10 a.m., parade at 11 a.m., and entertainment on the depot for all at 1 p.m. (including "Best Dressed Hat" contest, cake walk, local entertainment with dancing, singing, etc.). There will also be a jumping house with a slide and other children games for the children. Raffle tickets will be on sale for a seasonal wreath and a Clemson and Carolina yard sign. Concessions will be available.
Pick Up with Pride, a community clean-up campaign, will be held Saturday, Sept. 28 from 8 a.m. to noon. Meet on the Circle in downtown Barnwell to sign in and pick up any supplies. Trucks are needed to help pick up trash bags.
The Farmers' Market in Elko is open every Saturday until mid-fall at the corner of Hwys. 78 and 37. In promoting healthy diets and lifestyles, there is a walking club and a children's club.
The market accepts debit and credit cards for customer convenience. SNAP/EBT, WIC Vouchers and Senior Checks will continue to be honored.

MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) is hosting a Vendor and Craft Fair on Aug. 31 from 9 a.m. to noon at Generations Unlimited (10913 Ellenton St., Barnwell). Proceeds will fund craft expenses and community service projects.

MOPS is a grassroots movement that believes moms are the world influencers. Barnwell Academy will host a multi-family yard sale on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 6 a.m.-until in the parking lot of Mr. B's Restaurant in Barnwell. The yard sale proceeds will support student academic programs.

Participants will race in two person teams. It costs $50 for a two-person team before Sept. 5 or $30 for one person. After Sept. 5 it costs $65 for a two-person team or $35 for single entry.
Through special events and private contributions, the Lexington County Sheriff's Foundation raises funds to purchase equipment, materials, training, and supplies for the Sheriff's Department, when not otherwise provided for in the Department's annual budget. OC Tech Admissions Day
Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College will host an Instant Admissions Day on Wednesday, Aug. 28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Atrium of Building S. This event is for anyone who wants to start a career, finish their college education or transfer to a four year university.
Participants will be able to apply and register for 8 or 12 week long courses that begin in September and October and also learn how to pay for their education through scholarships, grants and more.
In order to complete the process, applicants should bring or have on file at OCtech an official copy of their college transcript(s), a photo ID and 2012 W2's and tax returns to complete financial aid. Applicants should be prepared to take the COMPASS course placement test that determines the specific course level students will enroll in.

JDA Senior Orientation
Jefferson Davis Academy will hold an orientation for seniors and their parents on Monday, Sept. 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the JDA cafeteria.
Senior year is always a stressful time for seniors as well as their parents. This workshop will cover concerns about the college application process, financial aid, scholarships, and career opportunities. Make plans to attend this one-hour orientation.
