Community Uplift Program
The Community Uplift Program (C.U.P), a youth organization created to educate, empower and expose, girls ages 7-19, will have a meeting on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Williston Community Service Club. All girls ages 7 -19, are invited to attend and participate in C.U.P.
This event is free and refreshments will be served.

African-American Heritage Parade
Kelly Edwards Elementary School is requesting your participation and contribution in making the 2nd Annual African American Heritage Parade a success. This parade will be held on Sunday, Feb. 23, beginning at 4 p.m. along Main Street in Williston.
They are seeking the involvement of all community businesses, entrepreneurs, churches, faith-based, civic, or social clubs and organizations, as well as our community leaders, elected and appointed officials. The parade's entry fee is $5 and/or the sponsorship fee is $25. These proceeds will cover the cost associated with the legacy murals at KEES. Each year, the departing fifth grade students are allowed to paint a mural in the corridor of the school building as a visual legacy and representation of their presence at KEES.

Tobacco Use
Eat Smart Move More Barnwell County is seeking to partner with faith-based organizations in Barnwell County to provide information and education on the harms associated with tobacco use and secondhand smoke for your key leaders and congregation members. This education session will be held on Feb. 27, at the Barnwell Library. Onsite registration begins at 9:30 a.m.

African-American Celebration
Kelly Edwards Elementary will have a African-American Heritage Celebration on Friday, Feb. 28, at 1:30 p.m. The community is invited to attend this event. An alumni reception will be held prior to the program for the alumni of Kelly Edwards School beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Circle Theatre's ‘Second Samuel'
How can the death of one sweet little old lady turn an entire town upside down? Find out during Circle Theatre of Barnwell's production of "Second Samuel." Performances are Feb. 28, March 1, 6 & 7 at 8 p.m. with matinees on March 2 and 9 at 3 p.m.
Tickets are $10 for students/seniors and $12 for adults.

Retirement Party
The public is cordially invited to a drop-in reception honoring retiring Barnwell Police Chief M. Todd Gantt and Police Detective Frank Sutton following the regular city council meeting on Monday, March 3 at City Hall. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. The reception will begin around 7:15 and conclude by 8:30.

Taste of Blackville
The 8th annual Taste of Blackville will be held Saturday, April 12.
There will be vendors, BBQ, inflatable slide, Blackville-Hilda High School step team and band, pictures with the Easter Bunny, hat parade, and best dressed pet parade. Vendor forms are available at Enterprise Bank in Blackville.

Blackville Music/Art Festival
The Blackville Music & Art Festival Committee presents its 3rd Annual Music & Art Festival on May 16-17 starting at 4 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday. They hope to make the event bigger and better and invite vendors, performers and others to take part.

Big 7 Scholarship Banquet
The Big Seven Association's annual Scholarship Banquet is Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. at Barnwell Elementary School.
The speaker will be Donna Moore Wesby of Shout 94.7 radio. She hosts the "Education Matters" program.
Tickets are $15.

Spuds Lunch
Each year, the Barnwell Sandlapper League holds their Spuds Luncheon to benefit a local agency. This year's fundraiser, which will be held Feb. 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Barnwell Presbyterian Church fellowship hall, will benefit the Barnwell County Museum.
Tickets are $7 and include a loaded baked potato, salad, dessert and tea. You can eat in or take out. The league appreciates Reid's/Bi-Lo, Anthony's, Mi Rancho, Barnwell Presbyterian Church, museum manager Marie Peeples, and residents for their support.

Night of the Unleashed
Join the Animal Advocates Saturday, Feb. 22, for their 3rd Annual Night of the Unleashed fundraiser, as they celebrate nine years of animal welfare advancement in Barnwell County. It will be from 6:30 p.m. to midnight at Sweetwater Country Club.
Enjoy signature cocktails, wine and spirits from the cash bar, and gourmet cuisine provided by Catering for All Occasions. Participate in the live and silent auctions, as well as raffle tickets for special items. All items donated by Animal Advocates supporters. Dance into the night to the music of the band "Fantastic Voyagers"!
Tickets are $30. Ticket outlets: Liana Orr in Blackville, Williston Charm Dress Shop in downtown Williston and Tiffany Stapleton in Williston, Barnwell Vet Clinic, Evelyn's Jewelry, and Regions Bank in Barnwell.
There are also sponsorship opportunities. All proceeds benefit the group's Friends for Life Foster and Adoption Center.

Blues Festival
The 5th Annual Julius Daniels Memorial Blues Festival will be held Saturday, Feb. 22, from 6-9 p.m. at the Dane Theater in Denmark. It's sponsored by the Bamberg County Historic Society.
The opening act will be Bamberg County's own Warren Peay.
Balcony tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. First floor seats (except rows 1-4) are $15 for adults and $10 for students.

Relay for Life Pageant
The 1st Annual Miss Barnwell County Relay for Life Semi-Glitz Pageant will be held Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at 11 a.m. in the Barnwell Primary School auditorium.
Winners will be recognized at the 2014 Barnwell County Relay for Life on April 25 at Veteran's Park.

Sweetheart Ball
The Creation Station is hosting a Sweetheart Ball Feb. 21 in The Merge (behind Barnwell First Baptist Church. Doors open at 6 p.m. with dinner served at 6:30 and dancing beginning at 7 p.m. Register by Feb. 18.
This semi-formal event is for fathers, grandfathers, uncles, guardians, and their special princesses as well as moms, grandmas, aunts and guardians and their special princes.
Admission is $25 per couple and $10 for each additional child. It includes activities, dinner, DJ, and dancing. A photographer will be available to take pictures. Tickets can be purchased at The Creation Station of FBC office.

2014 Princess of Roses Pageant
The city of Orangeburg Parks & Recreation Department is accepting applications until Feb. 28 for the 2014 Orangeburg Princess of Roses Pageant. It will be held Saturday, March 8, at 2 p.m. at Robert Stevenson Auditorium (979 Middleton St.).
Young ladies throughout the state are invited to participate. Age divisions are: Orangeburg Princess of Roses (15-16 years old); Teen Orangeburg Princess of Roses (13-14 years old); Young Orangeburg Princess of Roses (10-12); Little Orangeburg Princess of Roses (7-9); and Wee Orangeburg Princess of Roses (4-6). Age is calculated as of pageant date.
Applications are available at City of Orangeburg Parks and Recreation. Entry fee is $40 for pageant, $10 for first photograph in photogenic competition, and $5 for additional photos.

Queen of Roses Scholarship Pageant
The Orangeburg Queen of Roses Scholarship Pageant will be held Saturday, March 8, at 6 p.m. in Stevenson Auditorium (Stevenson Auditorium (979 Middleton St.).
Qualifications: young women who are 17-22 years old, never been married or pregnant, a full-time college or university student no later than 2015 fall semester, and be a South Carolina resident or attending college in the state.

Susie Rosier 5K Run/Walk
The 8th Annual Susie Rosier Character of Fitness 5K Run and Walk will be April 12 at the Barnwell County Veterans Memorial Park. It raises money to support the No Cost/Low Cost Spay/Neuter program. The funds also contribute to the foundation's support and improvements of the Barnwell County Animal Shelter.
By participating in the 2014 Susie Rosier 5K event as a sponsor ($100 or more), you can help continue efforts to control the county's pet population. Any contribution will be appreciated. Barnwell County Animal Shelter Foundation is a recognized South Carolina non-profit corporation, with 501c-3 status.

Kelly Edwards Elementary
K4 registration at Kelly Edwards Elementary School will be held Feb. 10-14.
Please bring the following information: S.C. Immunization Record, Official Birth Certificate, Two Required Proofs of Residency (1 must be a Current Tax Notice or Lease/Mortgage Agreement and the other item can be any proof that shows a physical address such as but not limited to the following: Current power bill, water bill, satellite/cable bill, automobile tax/automobile registration card), Medicaid card (4K only), and Proof of income such as paycheck stub or W2 (4K only).
Your child must be four on or before Sept. 1, 2014, to register for 4-year-old kindergarten.  

Barnwell Primary
Four and five-year-old registration for the 2014-15 school year at Barnwell Primary School will be held every Wednesday and Thursday between Feb. 19 and May 1. It will take place from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Students must be 4 or 5 years old on or before Sept 1, 2014 to enter school in August 2014.
Parents should bring the following to register their children: SC Shot Record, Certified Birth Certificate, Child's Social Security Card, Two Current Dated Proofs (must provide current dated power bill at time of registration and one other proof of residence in parent's name & address). There is a $15 material fee due at registration.

Lions Club
Come join the Lions Club, the largest service organization in the world. The Lions' mission is to assist needy citizens in their efforts to obtain proper vision care.
Barnwell County Lions Club meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday evening in the Fellowship Hall of the Barnwell Presbyterian Church. Dinner begins at 7 p.m. with a community related program beginning around 7:30.

Blackville Recreation
The town of Blackville Recreation Department is accepting applications for volunteer coaches for baseball and tee-ball. Applications are available at Blackville Town Hall.
Registration is underway for children ages 7-13 through March 7 at the town hall during normal business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday). The registration fee is $20.

Baseball Camp
LeBon Joye's Baseball Camp will be held March 8-9 at the Lemon Park Sports Complex. It's a free camp for kids ages seven and up. It will take place March 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and March 9 from 1 to 5 p.m.
LeBon Joye, a scout for the Atlanta Braves, is a product of Barnwell Dixie Youth and High School All-Region and MVP.
