KEES Celebrates Black History

Circle Theatre's ‘Second Samuel'
How can the death of one sweet little old lady turn an entire town upside down? Find out during Circle Theatre of Barnwell's production of "Second Samuel." Performances are Feb. 28, March 1, 6 & 7 at 8 p.m. with matinees on March 2 and 9 at 3 p.m.
Tickets are $10 for students/seniors and $12 for adults. The theatre now accepts credit cards.

Salkehatchie Stew's "What Matters Most" play will take you back to the 1960s. Performances are at 3 p.m. on the following days: March 1 and 2 at the Carolina Theatre (420 Main St. N., Allendale; March 15 at Circle Theatre (325 Academy St., Barnwell; March 22 and 23 at The Palmetto Theatre (108 Lee Ave., Hampton; and March 29 at The Dane Theatre (131 South Palmetto Ave., Denmark).
Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students. Group packages are available for groups of 12 of more. Tickets will be available at the door until sold out.
County Historical Tour packages are available for each Saturday performance. All tours are from 10 am to 2 pm and cost $10.

The 8th annual Taste of Blackville will be held Saturday, April 12.

2014 Princess of Roses Pageant
The city of Orangeburg Parks & Recreation Department is accepting applications until Feb. 28 for the 2014 Orangeburg Princess of Roses Pageant. It will be held Saturday, March 8, at 2 p.m. at Robert Stevenson Auditorium (979 Middleton St.).
Young ladies throughout the state are invited to participate. Age divisions are: Orangeburg Princess of Roses (15-16 years old); Teen Orangeburg Princess of Roses (13-14 years old); Young Orangeburg Princess of Roses (10-12); Little Orangeburg Princess of Roses (7-9); and Wee Orangeburg Princess of Roses (4-6). Age is calculated as of pageant date.
There will be a winner, first and second runner-up in each division. There will be a photogenic competition for those who wish to enter one or more photographs.
Applications are available at City of Orangeburg Parks and Recreation. Entry fee is $40 for pageant, $10 for first photograph in photogenic competition, and $5 for additional photos.

Queen of Roses Scholarship Pageant
The Orangeburg Queen of Roses Scholarship Pageant will be held Saturday, March 8, at 6 p.m. in Stevenson Auditorium (Stevenson Auditorium (979 Middleton St.).
Qualifications: young women who are 17-22 years old, never been married or pregnant, a full-time college or university student no later than 2015 fall semester, and be a South Carolina resident or attending college in the state.
Contestants will compete in swimwear, talent, and evening gown/on-stage question. Judging will be on a 1-10 scale with the highest being crowned Orangeburg Queen of Roses. Awards for Orangeburg Queen of Roses include a $1,500 scholarship, crown, trophy and sash. First and second runners-up will receive $750 and $500, respectively, and a trophy. Talent winner will receive $500 scholarship and trophy.

Susie Rosier 5K Run/Walk
The 8th Annual Susie Rosier Character of Fitness 5K Run and Walk will be April 12 at the Barnwell County Veterans Memorial Park. It raises money to support the No Cost/Low Cost Spay/Neuter program. The funds also contribute to the foundation's support and improvements of the Barnwell County Animal Shelter.
By participating in the 2014 Susie Rosier 5K event as a sponsor ($100 or more), you can help continue efforts to control the county's pet population. Any contribution will be appreciated. Barnwell County Animal Shelter Foundation is a recognized South Carolina non-profit corporation, with 501c-3 status.

Chamber Golf Tournament
The Barnwell County Chamber of Commerce Benefit Golf Tournament will be held Friday, April 25, at Sweetwater Country Club in Barnwell. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with a Shotgun start at 10 a.m. The format is 4-person Captain's Choice and cost is $200 per team. Many prizes will be awarded, including Hole-in-One, Closest to the Pin, and Longest Drive.
Hole sponsorships also are available for $100. Join the Chamber for a day of fun and networking.

Four and five-year-old registration for the 2014-15 school year at Barnwell Primary School will be held every Wednesday and Thursday through May 1 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Students must be 4 or 5 years old on or before Sept 1, 2014 to enter school in August 2014.
Parents should bring the following to register their children: SC Shot Record, Certified Birth Certificate, Child's Social Security Card, Two Current Dated Proofs (must provide current dated power bill at time of registration and one other proof of residence in parent's name & address). There is a $15 material fee due at registration.

LeBon Joye's Baseball Camp will be held March 8-9 at the Lemon Park Sports Complex. It's a free camp for kids ages seven and up. It will take place March 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and March 9 from 1 to 5 p.m.
Participants will learn about hitting, fielding, base-running, pitching and defensive situations.
