Farmers Markets
Barnwell: The Fuller Park Farmers Market is open to local artisans and crafters this year and we encourage those in the area to participate in the market. They are accepting vendor applications for the 2014 season.

Elko: The Elko Farmers' Market is seeking vendors for its 2014 season, including farmers and gardeners with cool weather crops, early spring produce like salad greens, broccoli, cabbage, beets, garden peas, spinach and other greens. Berries and bedding plants are also good sellers in the spring and early summer. Crafters and bakers are also welcome.
It's every Saturday until mid-fall, at the corner of Hwy. 78 in Elko. WIC vouchers and senior checks are also accepted.

Sports Camp
The Blackville Recreation Department is sponsoring an eight-week summer sports camp June 2 thru July 31 from 3 to 9 p.m. It will offer a variety of activities, including cheerleading, football, soccer and board games. It costs $20 for youth ages four to 17.

Independence Day celebration
During Barnwell County's Independence Day celebration Thursday, July 3, at Veterans Park, Barnwell, the men and women (first responders of the county: fire, EMS, police, deputies and electrical companies) who worked to get power on and keep residents safe during and after Winter Storm Pax will be honored. In addition, the evening will be full of food, music and a bigger than ever professional fireworks display. Festivities begin at 6 p.m.
Bring your chairs and picnics, several vendors will be there with good summertime food. Tune in to 90.5 FM within .5 miles of the park and listen to the music along with the fireworks.
River Trips
The Bamberg County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring South Fork River Trips the third Saturday during the months of June thru September - June 21, July 19, August 16 and September 20. Meet at Bobcat Landing (on U.S. 301) north of Bamberg by 9 a.m.
Free shuttle service is provided, but donations are accepted.

Driver Safety Class
AARP Senior Driver Safety will hold a class on Thursday, July 17, at Generations Unlimited (10913 Ellenton St., Barnwell). Class will begin at 9 a.m. and run until 3:30 p.m. You may bring lunch or purchase it for a nominal fee from Generations Unlimited.
The cost for class materials is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members, cash or check (payable to AARP). Completion of this class may result in a discount on the participant's automobile insurance.

Evening with Jenks Farmer
On July 17 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Jenks Farmer will read from his new book, Deep Rooted Wisdom. Event will take place at the Salkehatchie Arts Center in Allendale.
13th Annual Gospel Extravaganza
Saxophonist James "Bo" Gardner celebrates his 13th Annual Gospel Extravaganza on July 20 at 4 p.m. at the Williston Elko High School Auditorium. Musical guests include Joesphine Dicks and the Inspirers, John Wrights, Radio Angels. Doors open at 3 p.m. and donations are accepted.
Free Homeownership Seminar
A Free Homeowner Seminar will take place at the James Brandt Building Auditorium in Allendale on June 26 at 5 p.m.
2014 Summer Recreation Program
Programs are for ages 6-18 and will be at the Denmark Technical College Gymanisum. There is no cost for these programs. On June 16-19, June 23-26, June 30, July 7-10 and July 14-17 all times are from 9-1 p.m. Anyone interested can sign up at Denmark City Hall.
City of Bamberg 4th of July Celebration
On July 4, the City of Bamberg will hace a 4th of July celebration at the Ness Sports Complex Building. Gates open at 2 p.m. and the firewords show begins at 9:30 p.m.
5th Annual Touch A Truck
June 28 at Fuller Park from 10 a.m. - Noon
No admission fee for event
Touch a Truck offers children a hands-on opportunity to explore heavy machinery and meet the people who build, protect and serve within Barnwell County. Vehicles on display could include construction trucks, emergency responders, tractor trailers, light and heavy duty utility trucks.
Safe Kids of South Carolina will be offering Car Seat Safety Checks.The Farmers' Market will be open during this event. The City of Barnwell Parks and Recreation invites the community-at-large to join us!

Barnwell Academy is now accepting applications for the 2014-2015 school year for Preschool-6th grade. Barnwell Academy is a faith-based, SCISA accredited Christian school now located on Ellenton Street.

Jefferson Davis Academy
Jefferson Davis Academy is now accepting applications for 2014-145 school year. Grade levels for enrollment are 3K - 12th grades. They also offer an afterschool care program from 2 to 4 p.m. for a very nominal fee.

Winfield Heights Kindergarten
Winfield Heights Christian Kindergarten is enrolling for the 2014-15 school year for grades K3, K4 and K5.

Barnwell Primary School
New student registration only is on Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Barnwell Primary School. Registration is from June 9-July 31. Records that are required are birth certificate, SC shot record, child's social security card, two current dated proof of residence and the power bill is required as one proof of residence.

Alumni Football Game
The Barnwell Warhorse Club wil be sponsoring an Alumnit Football Game on August 15 at Barnwell High Schooll. Cheer Clinic
Jefferson Davis Academy is sponsoring a cheer clinic from July 22-25. Cost is $50 includes T-shirt, snack, cheer and dance instruction and games.

Barnwell Lions Club
Come join the Lions Club, the largest service organization in the world. The Lions' mission is to assist needy citizens in their efforts to obtain proper vision care.
Barnwell County Lions Club meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday evening in the Fellowship Hall of the Barnwell Presbyterian Church. Dinner begins at 7 p.m. with a community related program beginning around 7:30.

Blackville Downtown Development
On June 26 at 6 p.m. the Blackville Downtown Development Association will present a meeting for all downtown merchant and building owners at the Blackville Community Center. Agenda is to come up with plans to make downtown Blackville more attractive for businesses, tourists and the citizens.
Barnwell School District 45
Barnwell School District 45 Board of Trustees will have their regular board meeting July 1, 2014, at 7 p.m., in the conference room of the Administration Building, 770 Hagood Avenue, Barnwell, South Carolina.
Cancer Support Group
The Barnwell County Cancer Support Group meets monthly on the third Thursday, unless there is a conflict with church calendar, at Elko Baptist Church.
Marine Corps League No. 1227
Marine Corps League Detachment No. 1227 holds its monthly meeting the fourth Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the Joey Zorn Law Enforcement Center.
All marines and FMF corpsman are invited to attend.

Lions Club Birthday Calendars
The Barnwell Lions Club members are taking orders for their 2015 Lions Club Birthday Calendars. The calendars are $5.00 each, and each anniversary and birthday listing is $0.50. Orders will be accepted from now until July 15.
Thanks to all who have been supporting this project in the past, and we hope that you will allow us to include you again in 2015.
