Hawks Family Day
The Hawks Hit Harder Family and Friends Day will be Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. at the Blackville Country Club. It's for all players who played for Coach Tim Moore from 1979 to 1986. A $25 donation is requested.
Third Thursday will be Oct. 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. on the Circle with musical entertainment by Doctors, Lawyers & Indian Chiefs. There will also be a Quarter Carnival for children and other activities (mini-pumpkin painting for $1, free children's costume contest, and pet costume contest with Animal Advocates for $5. There will also be face painting, hay rides, and Trick or Treating with participating merchants. Boy Scout Troop 392 will be doing a hot dog fundraiser.
Pumpkin Decorating will be held Monday, Oct. 21, at 6 p.m. at the Lemon Park playground area. The cost is $5 a pumpkin. Pumpkins and decorating materials will be provided. Pre-registration is required at City Hall.
Shepeard Community Blood Center will host a blood drive Friday, Oct. 25, from 1 to 6 p.m. in The People-Sentinel's parking lot. Bring a photo ID or donor ID card.
Chemo with Style
Hospice Care of Tri County sponsors Chemo With Style, a free program available to women who are undergoing cancer or other treatments which result in hair loss. Classes are held monthly at Imago Salon (215 Richland Ave., Aiken) from 5:30 - 7 p.m. on Oct. 28 and Nov. 25.
During the program, local merchants and volunteers teach and fit each individual with a wig, showing creative ways to wear different head wear and offer personal appearance tips.

The Barnwell Primary School Parent Teacher Organization is again sponsoring Trunk-or-Treat on Halloween night, Oct. 31, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the school. They encourage children to come out but are also looking for people to set up Halloween decorated trunks (not too scary) and hand out candy to trick-or-treaters. They are also looking for donations of candy, which they can pick up if needed.

The Together Sisters will sponsor their annual Halloween Party on Oct. 31 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Blackville Community Center. Children are encouraged to wear their costumes.
Trick or Treating
Halloween is Thursday, Oct. 31. Trick or Treating in Barnwell is set from 6-8 p.m. that evening. It is unlawful for any person over the age of 12 to participate in trick or treating on Halloween night. All participants should be accompanied by a parent or responsible person. Do not go into neighborhoods that you are unfamiliar with or to homes that are darkened. Respect privacy and property.
The 5k Walk/Run Turkey Trot is Saturday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m. at Lake Brown. The entry fee is $15 for adults or $5 for children. Register at City Hall.
Barnwell: The city of Barnwell's annual Christmas Parade is set for Saturday, Dec. 7, at 4 p.m. Rented float applications are due by Nov. 1. All other participation applications are due Dec. 2.
Williston: The town of Williston Christmas Parade will be held on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 4 p.m. Awards will be given for Best Band, Best Float, Best Auto, Best Character and Best golf-cart.

It's a Howl·O·Ween event just for dog-lovers! The Animal Advocates are hosting their annual Canine Costume Contest during the Third Thursday event Oct. 17. Complete a contest registration form at the table in front of The Pick of the Litter from 5 to 6:15 p.m. All dogs will receive a free goodie bag at registration.
The fee is dog or $10 for team of dogs. At 6:30, furry friends and their owners will strut their stuff in the Canine Costume Parade around The Circle ending back in front of The Pick of the Litter where the winners will be announced.
The third annual fall rummage and bake sale will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Holy Apostles Church Parish Hall (corner of Hagood and Burr streets, Barnwell). There will be bargains for everyone - furniture, clothing, house wares, delicious baked goods and more. Free coffee will be served.
The Hilda Fire Department will be sponsoring a Haunted House on Saturday, Oct. 19 and Saturday, October 26 from 6:30 until 10 p.m. There will be concessions available for purchase. All proceeds go to the Hilda Fire Department.

Many tasty varieties will be served during the "Serving Up Soup for the Arts" fundraiser Friday, Oct 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Effie Mae Fuller Community Center (Barnwell County Museum on the corner of Marlboro and Hagood avenues).

Barnwell Academy will be hosting a pumpkin patch at their new school location from October 16 through October 31. Pumpkins of various sizes and prices will be available for purchase. The patch will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. during weekdays, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.

The Legion Center Ministry will be holding a canned and non-perishable food drive Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the following locations: IGA and Walmart in Barnwell, Ken's Galaxy in Blackville and IGA in Williston. Food collected will be used in the soup kitchen run by the Legion Center Ministry and the Barnwell County Food Bank.
The Salkehatchie Arts Center in Allendale will host its annual Empty Bowl fundraising soup lunch on Wednesday, Oct. 23, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. A variety of soups and stews will be served along with bread, drink, and dessert for eat-in or take-out. Have one or sample them all.
Tickets are only $10 and include a handmade soup bowl by local artist Trevor Foster. Buy four or more tickets, and get a copy of the Arts Center cookbook, "Artful Tastes, for free.

Day in the Country 5K
Team Zeta will hold A Day in the Country 5K race on Saturday, Oct. 26 beginning and ending at Twitty's Mud Bog (Hwy. 321 between Ulmer and Sycamore). Proceeds will support Team Zeta as they support special needs children and their families.
Costumed runners and decorated strollers and wheelchairs are encouraged to attend the 5K at 9 a.m. An awards ceremony will begin at 10:15 a.m. for male/female winners in different age categories. Wheelchair and stroller participants will receive a ribbon. The K-12 school with the most participation will receive an award for their special needs department.
Registration is $20 through Oct. 20 (includes T-shirt). Race day registration is $25 with T-shirts based on availability. Forms, along with payment, may be returned to Hair Design Studio in Barnwell, Sanders Supply in Bamberg, or Team Zeta (P.O. Box 36, Ulmer, S.C. 29849).

Christian Business Ventures
Christian Business Ventures will host a three-day fundraiser Nov. 1 thru 3 in Blackville. Food and crafters are invited to set up for a small fee. Friday will feature blue grass country gospel sing under the big tent from 6 to 8 p.m. On Saturday, there will be bikers open road ride from 10 a.m. to noon, hog pickin', biker's show from noon to 2 p.m., auction, supper, entertainment, and more. On Sunday, a carry in pot luck under the big tent will be held with local entertainment.
Miss BES Pageant
The Barnwell Elementary School PTO is proud to sponsor the 2013 Miss BES Pageant on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m. in the school's multi-purpose room. Contestants must be BES students in the fourth, fifth or sixth grade.
Packets will be available daily between 7:30-8 a.m. from Mrs. S.D. Moore (room 407 on 4th grade hall) and must be returned with fees by Friday, Oct. 18, at 3 p.m. There will be no exceptions to the deadline. Cash or money order only.

The Miss Cool Colt Pageant will be held Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. in the Barnwell Primary School auditorium. The Fuller House Focus Gallery's newest exhibit is the "Back to School" features artifacts from the early 1800s until the present day. This exhibit will be showing until November.
The Barnwell County Museum will be participating in Trick or Treating this year again. They will follow city wide rules.
The museum is having a fall festival Nov. 16 at 10 a.m. The event is free to attend, but costs $5 to be a vendor. There will be games, cake walk, demonstrations and more.
