Farmers Markets
Barnwell: The Fuller Park Farmers Market is open to local artisans and crafters this year and we encourage those in the area to participate in the market. They are accepting vendor applications for the 2014 season.

Elko: The Elko Farmers' Market is seeking vendors for its 2014 season, including farmers and gardeners with cool weather crops, early spring produce like salad greens, broccoli, cabbage, beets, garden peas, spinach and other greens. Berries and bedding plants are also good sellers in the spring and early summer. Crafters and bakers are also welcome.
It's every Saturday until mid-fall, at the corner of Hwy. 78 in Elko. WIC vouchers and senior checks are also accepted.

Sports Camp
The Blackville Recreation Department is sponsoring an eight-week summer sports camp June 2 thru July 31 from 3 to 9 p.m. It will offer a variety of activities, including cheerleading, football, soccer and board games. It costs $20 for youth ages four to 17.

Character Camp
The Barnwell County Sheriff's Office will host weeklong "BE SMART" character camps this summer for rising 6th, 7th and 8th graders. The free camps will be held June 16-20 at Barnwell Elementary, and July 14-18 at Blackville-Hilda High. All camps are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
During the camp, students will learn from agencies such as SRS Ecology Lab, DNR, Barnwell Fire Dept., SCHP, Axis 1 and many more. "BE SMART" camp will educate students on safety and character. The camp is free.
Registration forms are available from the schools or sheriff's office.
Hospice Volunteer Training
Trinity Hospice is looking for motivated volunteers wanting to have a positive impact in their community. The next new volunteer orientation will be June 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and June 20 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Please call to register.

Daddy Day at Park
The Community Uplift Program (C.U.P), Young Men of God (Y.M.O.G) and the Williston Community Service Club will host the Daddy Day at the Park event on Saturday, June 21, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Elko Park in Elko. The entire community is invited to this event full of fun, food and games, promoting the involvement of fathers and males within our families and communities.

River Trips
The Bamberg County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring South Fork River Trips the third Saturday during the months of June thru September - June 21, July 19, August 16 and September 20. Meet at Bobcat Landing (on U.S. 301) north of Bamberg by 9 a.m.
Free shuttle service is provided, but donations are accepted.

Family Bluegrass Gospel
Strings and Things will be playing on June 21 at the Bread-Basket Area in Blackville. Event starts at 6:30 p.m. Audience is to bring their own chairs or lawn blankets.
SRS Information Pods
Visit "SRS Information Pods" to learn about putting science to work at our world-renowned National Laboratory, producing tritium gas for nuclear weapons, developing cutting-edge technology to safely process or dispose of radioactive waste in addition to new work scope being considered for the Savannah River Site (SRS). Registration starts at 5 p.m. on June 12 at Barnwell High School.
Independence Day
During Barnwell County's Independence Day celebration Thursday, July 3, at Veterans Park, the men and women (first responders of the county: fire, EMS, police, deputies and electrical companies) who worked to get power on and keep residents safe during and after Winter Storm Pax will be honored. In addition, the evening will be full of food, music and a bigger than ever professional fireworks display. Festivities begin at 6 p.m.
Bring your chairs and picnics, several vendors will be there with good summertime food. Tune in to 90.5 FM within .5 miles of the park and listen to the music along with the fireworks.
Driver Safety Class
AARP Senior Driver Safety will hold a class on Thursday, July 17, at Generations Unlimited (10913 Ellenton St., Barnwell). Class will begin at 9 a.m. and run until 3:30 p.m. You may bring lunch or purchase it for a nominal fee from Generations Unlimited.
The cost for class materials is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members, cash or check (payable to AARP). Completion of this class may result in a discount on the participant's automobile insurance.

Shag to End Alzheimers
The Barnwell County Alzheimer's Association will present its 2nd Annual Shag to End Alzheimers Dance on Saturday, June 21, at 7 p.m. at the El Bab Shrine Club in Barnwell. DJ Pat Patterson with The Large Time Network will be playing beach, boogie and blues. There will be light Hor D'oeuvres, cash bar, door prizes and raffles.
Tickets are $25. All proceeds benefit the Alzheimer's Association.

Jefferson Davis Academy
Jefferson Davis Academy is now accepting applications for 2014-145 school year. Grade levels for enrollment are 3K - 12th grades. They also offer an afterschool care program from 2 to 4 p.m. for a very nominal fee.

New student registration only is on Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Barnwell Primary School. Registration is from June 9-July 31. Records that are required are birth certificate, SC shot record, child's social security card, two current dated proof of residence and the power bill is required as one proof of residence.

UK International Soccer Camp
City of Barnwell will host a soccer camp from June 16-20 at Lemon Park Sports Complex. All players ages 5-16 are welcome. Prices vary by time: 9 a.m. to noon is $92; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. is $135.

Denmark Alumnae Chapter
The Denmark Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will have its monthly meeting on June 14 at 10 a.m. at Voorhees College, St. James Building.
Diabetic Shoe Clinic
A diabetic shoe clinic will take place on June 19 at the Gail Reyes Senior Center (Generations Unlimited) from 9-11 a.m. topics will include the need for diabetic shoes and insurance options for patients in need for diabetic shoes.
Circle Theatre Board Elections
The Circle Theatre annual meeting will be held June 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the theatre. The primary purpose of the meeting is conduct elections for the Executive Board of the theatre (President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer). Nominations for these positions are currently being accepted however all nominees must be a CT member (season ticket holder or participant in any aspect of past season's productions) in good standing.
All theatre members are invited to come and vote/participate at the annual meeting.
Barnwell Lions Club
Come join the Lions Club, the largest service organization in the world. The Lions' mission is to assist needy citizens in their efforts to obtain proper vision care.
Barnwell County Lions Club meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday evening in the Fellowship Hall of the Barnwell Presbyterian Church. Dinner begins at 7 p.m. with a community related program beginning around 7:30.
