A sense of humor

First Byline:

There’s an old blonde joke that goes,
“Three blondes died and went to heaven. They came up to the pearly gates and met St. Peter. St. Peter greets them to enter into all that God has ready for them, but only if they could answer this one question. So he asks them, ‘What is Easter?’
The first replied, ‘Oh I got this! It’s in November when we get together, eat turkey, and are thankful.’ The second piped up, ‘No, No, No: Easter happens in December when we decorate a tree, give each other presents, and celebrate the birth of Jesus.’  The third jumped in at this saying, ‘You are both horribly wrong! Easter is the Christian holiday that coincides with the Jewish celebration of Passover. Jesus and his disciples were eating at the last supper and Jesus was later betrayed and turned over to Pilate by one of his disciples. He was stabbed in the side, wore a crown of thorns, and nailed to a cross. He died a horrific death from crucifixion. He was buried in a nearby cave, which was covered by a large boulder.’
St. Peter smiled and began to open the doors, then the third blond continued, ‘Every year the boulder is moved aside so that Jesus can come out of it, and if he sees his shadow there will be six more weeks of winter!’”
Yes, faithful readers, humor in the faith is a good thing! If you look for it, there are things all around us in our faith, if we give time to really listen, to really see, that will put a great smile on our face. God has a sense of humor! Pay attention; you’ll see it.
Perhaps you will see it in the ridiculous folklore of using a Groundhog as a prophet of the weather! Have a Happy Groundhog Day this week, and may God bless you in humor!
