Still, Curtis - Wedding

Nikki Michele Still of Barnwell and Donnie Fred Curtis of Barnwell were united in marriage on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Hunting Island Beach. The Rev. Greg A. Hammet officiated.

The bride was given in marriage by her father, Tony L. Still.

The bride’s dress was a white empire, halter style, floor length chiffon gown with beading.

The bride carried a bouquet of hand-tied sunflowers, light pink and yellow roses, pink roses, hydrangeas and rice flowers specially made by Brandis Woods, friend of the bride.

Taylor Ford and Asa Creech served as ring bearers.

Gator Drift Paddle / Campout
Join the Lower Savannah River Alliance and the Savannah Riverkeeper on Saturday, Oct. 3 for a canoe, kayak, and SUP Paddle Event. Travel a winding 5 miles on the beautiful Savannah River from Johnson’s Landing in South Carolina to Burton’s Ferry Landing in Georgia. Camping out is also an option. Paddlers need to meet at the Lower Savannah River Alliance Center at 9 a.m. 
All registration fees include a meal and T-shirt: $35 for Adults, $25 for Seniors and Military/$15 for kids under age 12, and $15/night primitive camping.  

Barnwell High 1960’s Reunion: #12 was somehow sweeter

The El BAB Shrine Cub was the location for the gathering of classmates spanning a 10-year stint at Barnwell High School.

There was an eagerness to revisit ole friends especially on Friday evening, August 14. Perhaps the present day newspapers, television, cell phones, and e-mails held us captive far too long. We needed a break, and this is exactly what the 60’s reunion offered: a safe, friendly diversion if only for one weekend per year. You did receive your invitation, didn’t you?

Friendship Baptist honors longtime servants

Friendship Baptist Church honored two long-time members and leaders on Sunday, Sept. 6.

Buddy Darnell and John H. Still Jr. were honored for more than 50 years of service each to the church. The Sept. 6 morning service was dedicated in their honor and included special songs and tributes followed by a potluck lunch.

“They are very faithful and have showed exemplary leadership,” said Pastor Jonathan Rochelle, adding how the men’s wives are also faithful. “They are true servants.”

I’Kira M. Jamison celebrated her second birthday on Friday, September 18, 2015.

I’Kira M. Jamison is the daughter of Leaaron B. Jamison and Laporsha L. Donaldson of Blackville.

Paternal grandparents are Mr. Lee E. Jamison and Mrs. Shirley Jamison of Denmark.

Maternal grandparents are Mr. Leroy Mayes of Blackville and Ms. Terry A. Donaldson of Columbia.

Great-grandparents are Mrs. Mildred Fleming and the late Mr. Johnny B. Fleming of Blackville, Mrs. Dorothy Mayes and the late Mr. George Mayes and the late Mr. Frank and Mrs. Sonjia Donaldson of Blackville.

Christopher Miller Jr. turns one

Christopher Miller Jr. celebrated his first birthday on September 16, 2015.

Christopher Miller Jr. is the son of Kendra Chavis and Christopher Miller Sr. of Barnwell. He has one sister, Aryana Miller.

Paternal grandparents are Robert and Margaret Miller of Barnwell.

Maternal grandparents are James and Karin Chavis and the late Tessa Chavis of Barnwell.

Great-grandparents are Peggy Owens of Barnwell, Johnny (Darlene) Owens of Windsor, and Brooks Ingram of Martin.

 

Kori Nicole Tharin - Birth

Corey Tharin and Teresa Morris are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Kori Nicole Tharin.

She was born at 11:46 a.m. August 13, 2015 at Aiken Regional Medical Center. She weighed seven pounds, two ounces and was 20 inches long.

She has one sister, Victoria Annabelle Tharin.

Paternal grandparents are Dan and Anita Tharin of Ulmer.

Maternal grandparents are Vicki and the late Richard Hawkins of Williston, and Layton and Charlotte Morris of Williston.

Elledge, Black wed

Courtney Elledge of Barnwell and Michael Black of Barnwell were united in marriage on September 5, 2015 at Mt. Lebanon Christian Church. The Rev. Pastor David Shultz officiated.

The bride was given in marriage by her father, Tom Bramlett.

The bride carried a bouquet of purple carnations.

Angel Keisler (cousin) served as matron of honor.

Bridesmaids were Dale Brogg (cousin) and Britny Bramlett (sister).

Willow Beasley served as flower girl.

William “BJ” Beard (friend) was best man.

Black, Harter wed

Buck Ridge Plantation near Neeses was the site of the June 27 wedding of Bridgett Boylston Black of Salley and Lucius “Luke” Walton Harter of Barnwell.

Bridgett is the daughter of Clint and Donna Black.

Luke is the son of Tom and Wendy Harter and the grandson of L.M. and JoAnn Brabham of Fairfax.

Officiating ministers of the outdoor service were Rev. Henry Cooper of Gethsemane Baptist Church in St. Matthews and Rev. Phillip Proveaux of Salley Baptist Church in Salley.

BHS Class of 2005 holds 10-year reunion

The Barnwell High School Class of 2005 held their 10-year class reunion August 28-29, 2015 with 85 people in attendance, including 55 classmates.

The festivities kicked off with tailgating before the Barnwell/Blackville-Hilda High football game Friday, August 28. Some classmates purchased class T-shirts and wore them at the game to show school and class spirit. As a class, they voted on what they wanted the shirts to say. The back of the shirts read:

Johnson, Lawton announce engagement

Mr. and Mrs. Herman and Annie Bell Johnson of Denmark are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Hermeca Johnson, to Vance Lawton Jr. He is the son of Deacon and Mrs. Vance Lawton Sr. of Denmark.

The bride-elect is currently employed with Denmark Technical College, Denmark.

The groom-elect is currently employed with AGY, Aiken.

The wedding is planned for 3 p.m. September 19, 2015 at Rome Baptist Church, Denmark.

 

Zorn, Cooper announce engagement

Mr. Gregory A. Zorn and Ms. Diana B. Zorn of Barnwell are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Hillary Ann, to Mr. Robert Jackson Cooper. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert O. Cooper of Williston.

The bride-elect is a 2015 graduate of Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College. She is currently employed as a Registered Nurse at Palmetto Health Richland.

The groom-elect is a Juris Doctorate Candidate at the University Of South Carolina School Of Law, Class of 2016. He is currently employed as a Law Clerk at Kirkland and Kirkland, LLC.

Sharpe, Hunter announce engagement

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sharpe are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Emily Elizabeth Sharpe, to Seth Andrew Hunter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stokes Hunter.

The bride-elect is a 2015 graduate of Lander University with a BS degree in nursing. She is employed by Anderson Medical Center.

The groom-elect is a graduate of Southern Wesleyan University and is an Assistant Branch Manager at BNC Bank in Easley.

The wedding is planned for December 5, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Rock Springs Baptist Church in Easley.

Buchanans start ministry in Barnwell churches

Barnwell United Methodist Church and Siloam United Methodist Church recently began services under the guidance of a new pastor.

On June 24, Pastor Fred Buchanan took the helm of the congregations. Buchanan is a North Carolina native, having grown up in Sylva. He received his first United Methodist appointment in 1987 as a student pastor. Buchanan is also a graduate of Berry College in Rome, Ga. with a dual degree in psychology and religion and philosophy. He went on to earn a master’s degree at Emory University as a student of theology.

Shrine Club wins Disney Award

The El BAB Shrine Club in Barnwell has received the Disney Award.

The award was presented by the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas and is the highest award an individual or club can receive in support of the annual football fundraiser.

The Shrine Bowl is a competition between the best 88 high school football players from North and South Carolina – 44 from each state. The Shrine Bowl is held the third Saturday in December and proceeds go to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Started in 1937, this year’s competition will be the 78th bowl game.

Mr. & Mrs. Johnson

Mikkia Neal Johnson and Tramel Johnson were united in marriage on July 11, 2014 and celebrated their vow renewal July 10, 2015 in front of the lake at The Manor at Doko Meadows in Blythewood. The Reverend Anthony Moore officiated.

The bride was given in marriage by both parents, Rev. McKinley Neal and Evangelist Gwendolyn Neal.

The bride’s dress was a blush pink Vera Wang gown.

The bride carried a bouquet of lavender roses with diamond accents.

Chasity Murles, friend and sorority sister, served as matron of honor.

Baptist Association helps residents

Volunteers from the Barnwell-Bamberg Baptist Association built their thirteenth wheelchair ramp for the year for those in need in the two-county area.

“It’s a wonderful ministry to be able to help somebody,” said Rev. Dan Fogle, pastor of Rosemary Baptist Church in Williston. He’s also the director of the BBBA’s men’s ministry.

The volunteers built the wheelchair ramp at a house in Williston on July 31. They also built steps for another person and refurbished steps at a third house.

Singletary, Gray announce engagement

Mr. and Mrs. Marion Singletary of Barnwell are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Dana Ann Singletary, to Jonathan Bryan Gray. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Gray of Barnwell.

The bride-elect is a 2012 graduate of the University of South Carolina Aiken. She is currently employed with Allendale County Hospital.

The groom-elect is a 2010 graduate of Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College. He is currently employed with South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
