New Church

Christ Community Church, a new Presbyterian Church of the Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians, is being formed in Barnwell County. They invite all to join them on Sunday mornings at the Barnwell County Family YMCA at 9:30 a.m. for Bible study and 10:30 a.m. for worship. For more information, please call (803) 259-5653.

Ranew, Smith engaged

The parents of Miss Kandyce Devon Ranew, Mr. Ronald Ranew and Ms. Denise Jackson, and the parents of Mr. Nathan Cotesworth “Coty” Smith, Mrs. Billie Smith and the late Mr. Rence Smith, are pleased to announce the engagement of their children.

Miss Ranew has been a resident of Hampton County since 2007 and graduated from Wade Hampton High School in 2009. She is now working on receiving her Associate’s Degree from the Technical College of the Lowcountry in Physical Therapist Assistant.

Holland, Young announce engagement

Marvin Joel Holland and Terri Lynn Collins of Barnwell are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Britton Lynn Holland, to Francis Marion Young. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Marion Young Jr. of Hampton.

The bride-elect is a 2013 graduate of Furman University and received a Master’s degree in 2014 from North Carolina State University. She is currently employed as an ESOL teacher with Berkeley County School District.

The groom-elect is a 2014 graduate of Clemson University. He is currently employed with F.M. Young Company.

Calhoun, Mays engaged

Lotoya Denise Calhoun and Grover Lee Mays Jr. are pleased to announcement their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

The bride-elect is the daughter of the late Ms. Shirley Ann Calhoun and James Harley Jr. Her foster parents are Randy Salley Sr. and Bettie Ann Salley. She is a Blackville-Hilda High School graduate and is employed at Burger King in Barnwell.

The groom-elect is the son of Grover Lee Sr. and Jennie Salley. He is employed with Crane in Williston.

The wedding will take place on June 10, 2017 at Ned Branch Baptist Church in Barnwell.

Anniversary Services

Seven Pines Baptist Church (14957 Dunbarton Boulevard, Snelling) will conclude its spring revival with evangelists Scott and Lorraine Saxton on Wednesday, May 10 at 7 p.m.

Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church (1198 S. Charleston Avenue, Fairfax) will celebrate their 140th anniversary on May 16-18 at 7 p.m. nightly. They will conclude on Sunday, May 21 at 11 a.m.

Agatha Christie Play

Who killed Richard Warwick?

Come to Circle Theatre of Barnwell to find out as they produce Agatha Christie’s murder mystery “The Unexpected Guest” on May 12 and 13 at 8 p.m. with matinee on May 14 at 3 p.m.

The audience is invited to play along and try to figure out who is the murderer. A vote will be taken at intermission. A drawing of all correct answers will be held at the end for one person to win a season ticket to next season’s plays.

National Day of Prayer

A National Day of Prayer event will be held around the Sundial in downtown Barnwell on Thursday, May 4 at noon. Another event will be held that evening at 5 p.m. at the Blackville Community Center.

Free Concert in Williston

The Williston Museum is holding a free outdoor concert on Saturday, May 6 at 2 p.m. featuring Don Goldman’s “Bear and Friends” band. They will play a variety of music. Bring your own lawn chair.

St. Peter Baptist Church will celebrate its 150th Church Anniversary May 3-5 at 7 p.m. and May 7 at 11 a.m. Speakers are: Rev. Willie James, First Shiloh Baptist Church on Wednesday night, Rev. Johnnie Lee Smith, Rosa Hill Baptist on Thursday night, Rev. Sanka Davis, Rome Baptist on Friday, and Rev. Asia Ferguson, Oakey Spring Baptist on Sunday.

Bethlehem Baptist Church welcomes new pastor

This is a long-awaited time in the life of our church, one that will always be remembered in the history of this Bethlehem, as we welcome our new pastor along with his wife and family into the fellowship of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Barnwell.

Rev. Anthony and Racquel Carter are proud parents of two beautiful children, Chaunasei AuBretta and Aaron Scott Carter.

Pastor Carter began his spiritual walk at Sweet Rest Baptist Church in Olar where he was ordained as Deacon. Later, he relocated to Honey Ford Baptist Church.

Barnwell Spring Fling

Join the Barnwell Development Association and City of Barnwell Parks and Recreation for an evening of entertainment and activities on Thursday, April 27 from 5-7 p.m. on the Circle for the annual Spring Fling. Musical entertainment will be provided by James ‘Bo’ Gardner. There will also be a quarter carnival with games and prizes.

Rosemary Baptist Church (151 Emerald Lane, Barnwell) will hold spring revival April 25-26 at 7 p.m. nightly. Guest speaker will be Dr. Sam Davis, pastor of Beulah Grove Baptist Church in Augusta, Ga.

Sweetwater Baptist Church (277 River Drive, Barnwell) will celebrate their 20th choir anniversary on April 29 at 3 p.m. They invite area youth choirs, groups, male choruses and praise dance groups to come and give God praise.

Emma-Faye Baxley turns four

Emma-Faye Baxley celebrated her fourth birthday on April 15, 2017.

Emma-Faye is the daughter of Jeffrey and Crystal Baxley of Barnwell.

She has two brothers, Justin and Trace Baxley.

Paternal grandparents are Julian and Linda Baxley of Barnwell and the late Linda Faye Horne of Fayetteville, N.C.

Maternal grandparents are Wayne and Yvonne Birt of Olar.

Great-grandparents are the late Bobby and Bonnie Birt of Santee, the late Charles Fail of Olar and Chlotilde Fail of Olar.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

The Cumbee Center to Assist Abused Persons will present Walk a Mile in Her Shoes on April 20 at 6 p.m. in Williston. This is an international men’s march to stop rape, sexual assault and gender violence. Check-in will be at 5:45 p.m. on the walking trail on Main Street.

Crews, Frederick announce engagement

Reverend and Mrs. Mark Dean Crews of York are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Hannah Wren Crews, to Philip William Frederick III. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip William Frederick Jr. of Williston.

The bride-elect is a 2017 graduate of Anderson University. She is currently employed at the York County Probate Court.

The groom-elect is a 2016 graduate of Aiken Technical College. He is currently employed at South East Nonwovens of Clover.

The wedding is planned for October 7, 2017 in York.

Bryan Owens turns 1

Bryan Mason Owens celebrated his first birthday on April 9, 2017.

Bryan is the son of Lois Howard and Jimmy Owens of Hilda.

Paternal grandparent is Ann Owens of Barnwell.

Maternal grandparent is Margaret Stafford of Statesboro, Ga.
