Coker, Williams announce engagement

Mr. and Mrs. Bubba Coker of Denmark are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Kamryn Coker, to Eric Williams. He is the son of Ms. Vickie Williams of Pinehill.

The bride-elect is a 2010 graduate of Jefferson Davis Academy. She is currently employed by Amedisys Home Health.

The groom-elect is currently employed by Lake Electric.

The wedding ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. on November 4, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Denmark.

Mr. & Mrs. Williams celebrate 50 years

Mr. and Mrs. John H. Williams (Birdie) of Williston celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 1, 2017. The couple renewed their wedding vows at Elko Baptist Church with Pastor Tom Baker officiating the ceremony.

Their daughters, Robyn Crews, Jodi Bazzle, and Angela Dube, honored them with a reception following the ceremony in the church fellowship hall. Family members and friends honored them with their presence and congratulations.

Barnwell: The Fuller Park Farmers Market is open Tuesdays and Thursdays through August from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fuller Park (9987 Dunbarton Boulevard, Barnwell). There will be fruits, vegetables, baked goods, eggs, artisans and crafters. There is no fee to be a vendor.

Recreation on Wheels is centered on bringing recreation programs to Lemon and Fuller parks. Children will participate in fun recreational activities, including arts and crafts, group initiatives and team building, water games, sports and more. Lunch is provided.

Russell 'Rush' Wakefield Kinard - BIRTH

Russ and Vicki Kinard are proud to announce the birth of their son, Russell Wakefield “Rush”.

He was born at 3:34 p.m. on May 5, 2017 at East Cooper Medical Center in Mt. Pleasant. He weighed 8 pounds, 1 ounce and was 20.5 inches long.

Rush is the youngest sibling. His sister, Cameron Cate, age two, says she loves her new brother very much.

Paternal grandparents are Rusty Kinard of Lodge and Barbara Lyons of Smoaks.

Maternal grandparents are Jody and Pud Searson of Barnwell.

Nathaniel Vinson celebrates 100 years

Nathaniel Vinson of Barnwell celebrated his 100th birthday on Saturday, June 10, 2017.

Family and friends, some from as far away as Alabama, helped Vinson celebrate his milestone birthday with a party at the Gail Reyes Senior Center in Barnwell. There was food and a short program.

Vinson, who was born on June 10, 1917, has lived in Barnwell since 2008 when he and his wife of 71 years, Mary, moved from Detroit, Michigan to be closer to family.

Shelby Heltibridle turns 9

Shelby Jane Heltibridle celebrated her 9th birthday on June 10, 2017.

Shelby is the daughter of Ashley Miles and Bobby Heltibridle of Barnwell.

She has three brothers, Kobey, Craig, and Clay; and has two sisters, Isabel and Ashby.

Grandparents are Tammy Thompson, Ken Miles, Donnie and Sandy Pender, and the late Phil Thompson Jr.

Great-grandparents are Harriett and Everon Collins of Hilda.

Yarby Eaves celebrates 104th birthday

Yarby Eaves celebrated her 104th birthday on Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 14) at her home in Barnwell with her three children, Buist Eaves, Terrel Eaves and Sara Allen, as well as devoted caregivers, Anna Swindoll, Alice Creech and Linda Ray.

Mrs. Eaves was born on May 14, 1913 in Leesville. The house she was born and reared in is on the National Registry of Historic Places.

She graduated from Lander College in 1935. She taught first grade in Pelion, Dunbarton, and Barnwell for a combination of 30 years.

Teen selected for JDRF Children’s Congress

A Barnwell native’s son will represent South Carolina at the 2017 JDRF Children’s Congress.

Nicole Creech Davis’ 14-year-old son Julian is one of South Carolina’s three delegates who will attend the event July 24-26 in Washington, D.C. where more than 150 children living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) meet face-to-face with some of the top government decision-makers. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation holds the Congress every two years.
