Mr. and Mrs. Kerek Bearden of Barnwell are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Alexandria Redding Bearden, to Nicholas Matthew Morris. He is the son of Matt and Dawn Morris of Blackville and Charlene Morris of Ehrhardt.

Back-to-School Bash

Each One Reach One will hold its inaugural Blackville Community Unity Day Back-to-School Drive on August 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Maloney Field in Blackville. There will be bounce houses, music, dance contest, and free haircuts for boys and hairdos for girls. Children can wear their bathing suits because a fire truck will be there to provide water play. Light refreshments will be served. School supplies will be given away.

Finn Aubrey Carroll - Birth

Stewart and Kellie Carroll are proud to announce the birth of their son, Finn Aubrey Carroll.

He was born at 3:48 p.m. on July 19, 2016 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga. He weighed 8 lbs., 8 oz. and was 20 inches long.

Finn has one sister, Harlie Carroll.

Paternal grandparents are Mark and Eloise Carroll of Williston.

Maternal grandparents are Andrew and Roxanne Lott of Williston.

Falls, Oswald announce engagement

Paige Falls, formerly of Fincastle, Va., is pleased to announce the engagement of her daughter, Hope Alexandra, of Thunderbolt, Ga., to Joseph Caulder Oswald IV, of Allendale. Hope Falls is also the daughter of the late Richard Falls.

The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Duane Fisher of Fincastle, Va., and the late Carolyn Fisher and Clara Falls of Chesapeake, Va., and the late Todd Falls.

Allendale First Friday

The First Friday Committee and Town of Allendale presents Allendale First Friday every first Friday from July to October. The next event is Friday, August 5 from 3-10 p.m. at the Allendale Community Center and Farmers Market. Bring a lawn chair. BINGO starts at 3 p.m. with gospel music at 5, Zumba at 6 and entertainment from 6-10 p.m. Vendors are welcome.

Melvin and Pearline Hightower Corbett of Springfield are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their son, Melvin Corbett Jr. of Summerville, to Deneishya Christie. She is the daughter of Anthony and Sonya Bruton of Summerville.

The groom-elect is employed with Boeing in Charleston. He has one daughter, Micaiah Slater.

The bride-elect is employed with Premier Logistics in Charleston. She has one daughter, Shakiya’s Moultrie.

Witherspoon, Johnson wed

Elizabeth Jayne Witherspoon of Greer (formerly of Denmark) and Joshua Adam Johnson of Greer were united in marriage on June 9, 2016 at Falls Park on the Reedy River in Greenville.

Elizabeth is the daughter of Al and Jayne Johansen of Denmark and Herbie and Terry Witherspoon of Branchville. Joshua is the son of Jim and Elizabeth Massey of Greer and Henry and Marietta Johnson of Simpsonville.

Elizabeth was given in marriage by her mother, Jayne. The Rev. Lane Bembenek of Joy Lutheran Church in Moore officiated.

Jerkins, Altman announce engagement

John and Susan Jerkins of Barnwell (Long Branch) are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Allyson Katherine Jerkins, to James David Altman. He is the son of Robert and Ginger Altman of Barnwell.

The bride-elect is a 2015 graduate of Aiken Technical College with a degree in radiology. She is currently employed at Aiken Regional Medical Center.

The groom-elect is a 2006 graduate of Barnwell High School. He is currently employed at Adam’s Nursery and Garden Center as store manager.

Lisbon promoted to Sergeant Major

Cindy Lisbon, 40, is a June 2016 graduate of The United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Class 66.

Lisbon is a 1993 graduate of Barnwell High School and has been in the Regular Army for 20 years as a Military Policeman.

She is married to retired Infantry First Sergeant Patrick James Lisbon of Lynchburg. They have two daughters, Patience Imani Lisbon and Paige Imari Lisbon. Lisbon is the daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Ingram of Barnwell.

Vacation Bible Schools

New Harvest Outreach Ministries will have Vacation Bible School July 25-29 from 6 to 9 p.m. There will be classes for all ages as well as crafts and activities.

Calvary Baptist Church (8744 Marlboro Avenue, Barnwell) will have Vacation Bible School Sunday, July 31 to Thursday, August 4 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The theme is: “Ocean Commotion...Diving into Noah’s Flood.” There will be Bible lessons, worship, snacks, crafts, games and more. Ready for hunting season? Join the Barnwell Area Homeschoolers for the 4-H & Archery Club’s Second Annual Adjust Your Aim Archery Tournament. He was born at 6:28 p.m. on July 5, 2016 at Aiken Regional Medical Center. He weighed 7 lbs., 8 oz. and was 20.5 inches long.

He has one brother, Blaize Jackson, who is 8 years old. He has one sister, Brooke Jackson, who is 6 years old.

Elko: The Elko Farmers Market is open every Saturday (weather permitting) until mid-fall, and is located across from the post office, on Hwy 78 in Elko. The Elko Farmers’ Market supports the concept of buying and selling locally when possible. Items sold are usually grown, raised or handcrafted within a 50-mile radius. WIC Vouchers and Senior Checks are also accepted.

Weekly Church Calendar

Trinity Baptist Church, 4721 Galilee Road, Barnwell, will have Vacation Bible School June 27 through July 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. nightly. There will be classes for babies to adults. Dinner will be served.

Faith Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, 80 Campbell Street, Blackville, will have Vacation Bible School July 10-14 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Classes for all ages.

Holladay, Houston wed

Samantha Kristen Holladay of Columbia and Jonathan Drew Houston of Lexington were united in marriage on May 15, 2016 at the Julian Smith Casino overlooking Lake Olmstead in Augusta, Ga.

The Rev. Dr. W. Steve Brown officiated. The bride was given in marriage by her father, Mr. Stanley Holladay.

The bride’s dress was a Casablanca Ivory Satin gown featuring a sweetheart neckline and chapel length train beaded and embroidered with crystal appliques. The bride carried a bouquet of pink star gazer lilies, white roses and magnolia branches.
