Ellingsen, Sanders engaged

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Ellingsen of Tega Cay are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Jessica May Ellingsen, to Mitchell Kory Sanders. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Sanders of Barnwell.

The bride-elect is a 2013 graduate of the University of South Carolina, Columbia. She is currently employed as an elementary school teacher in the Blythewood area.

Farmers Markets
Elko: The Elko Farmers Market is open every Saturday (weather permitting) until mid-fall, and is located across from the post office, on Hwy 78 in Elko. The Elko Farmers’ Market supports the concept of buying and selling locally when possible. Items sold are usually grown, raised or handcrafted within a 50-mile radius. WIC Vouchers and Senior Checks are also accepted.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOLS
Trinity Baptist Church, 4721 Galilee Road, Barnwell, will have Vacation Bible School June 27 through July 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. nightly. There will be classes for babies to adults. Dinner will be served.

Faith Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, 80 Campbell Street, Blackville, will have Vacation Bible School July 10-14 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Classes for all ages.

Holladay, Houston wed

Samantha Kristen Holladay of Columbia and Jonathan Drew Houston of Lexington were united in marriage on May 15, 2016 at the Julian Smith Casino overlooking Lake Olmstead in Augusta, Ga.

The Rev. Dr. W. Steve Brown officiated. The bride was given in marriage by her father, Mr. Stanley Holladay.

The bride’s dress was a Casablanca Ivory Satin gown featuring a sweetheart neckline and chapel length train beaded and embroidered with crystal appliques. The bride carried a bouquet of pink star gazer lilies, white roses and magnolia branches.

Church Calendar - June 1, 2016

New Hope UMC will have a chicken and fish dinner sale on Saturday, June 4 at Townsmen Hall (across from Subway) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dinners are $8 and include chicken or fish, baked beans, cole slaw, bread, cake and soda. Sandwiches are $4.

Silver Spring Missionary Baptist Church, 347 Woodrow Doby Road, Williston, will have their 6th biannual Rainbow Tea on Sunday, June 5 beginning at 10 a.m. with Sunday school.

Holman, Williams announce engagement

Ms. Eartha Holman is proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of her daughter, Felicia Michelle Holman, to Leroy Williams. The bride-elect is also the daughter of the late Carl Jones of Blackville. The groom-elect is the son of Mrs. Annie Williams and the late Willie Williams Sr. of Blackville.

The bride-elect is a 1992 graduate of Blackville-Hilda High School. She is currently employed with the Barnwell County Career Center.

The groom-elect is a 1995 graduate of Blackville-Hilda High School. He is retired from the United States Army.

Theatre Summer Camp
The Circle Theatre of Barnwell will be conducting its annual youth summer camp in July. There will be two separate weeks divided by age groups. July 11 to 17 will be for teens ages 14 to 18 and July 18 to 24 for kids 8 to 13. The older teens will produce and stage an age-appropriate comedy while the younger kids will participate in an MTI Broadway Jr. production (TBD) that will be produced and directed by the camp director Betty Bohmer with the assistance of the older teens. 

Eaves turns 103

Yarby Eaves celebrated her 103rd birthday on Saturday, May 14 at her home in Barnwell amid family and friends.

Mrs. Eaves was born on May 14, 1913 in Leesville. The house she was born and reared in is on the National Registry of Historic Places and is being enjoyed by a young family.

She graduated from Lander College in 1935 and was recently interviewed for an article in a Lander University publication. She taught first grade in Pelion, Dunbarton, and Barnwell for a combination of thirty years.

Eichman turns two

Brantley Susanna Eichman celebrated her second birthday on May 9, 2016.

She is the daughter of Bryan and Susan Eichman of Barnwell.

Brantley has three older siblings: Nicholas, 14, Katy, 10, and Abigail, 7.

Brantley is the granddaughter of Danny and Valenda Black of Barnwell, Gerald and Ginger Eichman of Rossville, Ga., Debbie Bolen of Elko, and the late Eddie Furman “Scooter” Harris. She is the great-granddaughter of Virginia L. Dunn of North and Billy and Betty Bolen of Elko.

English turns 8

Brayden English celebrated his eighth birthday on May 15, 2016.

Brayden is the son of Bruce English of Lexington.

He has two sisters, Ansley and Avery English.

Paternal grandparents are Richard and Christine English of Barnwell County.

Howze turns one

Khilee “Nevaeh” Howze will celebrate her first birthday on May 21, 2016.

A birthday party will be held on May 21 at 1 p.m. in Orangeburg at the YMCA.

She is the daughter of Shawn Howze Jr. and Audriana Wilson.

Paternal grandparents are Shawn Howze Sr. and Carla Howze.

Maternal grandparents are Damien Wilson and Sarika Davis.

 

Thompson, Jameson engaged

Mr. and Mrs. Andrew M. Thompson Sr. of Barnwell are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Lindsay Frances Thompson, to Matthew Elliot Jameson. Matthew is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Donnie H. Jameson of Chapin.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late David and Roberta Black of Barnwell, Jack and Marilyn Smith of Cordova and J.D. and Donna Thompson of Hardin, KY.

The groom-elect is the grandson of the late Russell and Mildred Jameson of Orangeburg and the late Bill and Grace Dreyfuss of Hampton.

Priester, Brown announce engagement

Mr. and Mrs. Jon K. (Jack) Priester of Martin are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Lindsey Rebecca Priester, to George Arbrallen Brown. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Brown of Sycamore.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mrs. Nita Duncan and the late J. T. Duncan of Martin and the late Mr. and Mrs. George Priester of Brunson. She is a 2007 graduate of Barnwell High School, a 2011 graduate of USC-Aiken, and a 2015 graduate of Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy. She is employed with CVS in Barnwell.

Mr. and Mrs. John Marion Priester Jr. of Sycamore are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Taylor Paige Priester, to James Chase Bell. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Roland Bell Jr. of Barnwell.

The bride-elect is a 2016 graduate of the University of South Carolina.

The groom-elect is a 2013 graduate of the University of South Carolina – Aiken. He is currently employed by Barnwell School District #45.

Mendoza turns one

Klein England T. Mendoza celebrated her first birthday on May 9, 2016. A birthday party was held May 7 at 4 p.m. in the Colony West community function hall.

She is the daughter of Czar and Maria Clioan Mendoza.

Paternal grandparents are Victor and Crisanta Mendoza.

Maternal grandparents are Moreto and Zenaida Tupaz.
