National Day of Prayer
Barnwell: Barnwell County’s Day of Prayer will be May 5 at noon at the courthouse Sundial. The Barnwell County Ministerial Association would love to have as many people there to pray as possible. They will be praying for the town, county, state, and country. 
Blackville: A National Day of Prayer service will be held Thursday, May 5 at 6 p.m. at the Blackville Community Center.

Church Calendar - May 4, 2016

Mt. Everest Worship Center (5670 Hwy. 278, Barnwell) will hold a “Dinner and a Movie” fundraiser on Friday, May 6 at 6:30 p.m. The dinner will be a spaghetti dinner and the moving showing will be ‘God’s Not Dead’. You can order a dinner to be picked up between 4 and 6 p.m. for $7. Call 803-571-5198 to order a dinner.

Elko Farmers Market opening May 21, seeks vendors

Vendor applications are being accepted for the 2016 season of the Elko Farmers Market. Farmers, market gardeners, crafters and home bakers are invited to join the market.

This year’s opening day is Saturday, May 21, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The market will open every Saturday (weather permitting) until mid-fall, and is located across from the post office, on Hwy 78 in Elko.

Johnson, Sanders announce engagement

Mr. and Mrs. Jay Johnson of Kingstree are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Rebekah Ann Johnson, to Jacob Marion Sanders. He is the son of Vana and the late Don Sanders of Blackville.

The bride-elect currently attends North Greenville University and will graduate in 2017.

The groom-elect currently attends North Greenville University and will graduate in 2017. He is pursuing a career in media ministry.

They are planning a summer wedding in 2017.

 

Baxley turns three

Emma-Faye Baxley celebrated her third birthday on April 15, 2016.

Emma-Faye Baxley is the daughter of Jeffrey and Crystal Baxley of Barnwell.

She has two brothers, Justin Baxley, 17, and Trace Baxley, 13.

Paternal grandparents are Julian and Linda Baxley of Barnwell and the late Linda Faye Quick Horne of Fayetteville, N.C.

Maternal grandparents are Wayne and Yvonne Birt of Olar.

Great-grandparents are the late Charles V. Fail of Olar and Emily Chlotilde Fail of Olar, and the late Bobby and Bonnie Birt of Santee.

Word of Life, 6254 Hwy. 278, Barnwell, will have community prayer for surrounding communities every Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Bible study at 8 p.m. If you need prayer for yourself or someone else, call (803) 259-2173 and leave your request for prayer or transportation to church. Union Branch Church, 465 Tinker Creek Road/Hwy. 781, has a new pastor, Rev. Wade Scott. Every fourth Sunday they have Sunday school at 10 a.m. and service at 11 a.m.

Sadie Bragg - Birth

Ryan and Shanon Bragg are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Sadie Dawn Bragg.

She was born at 4:49 a.m. on February 14, 2016 at Aiken Regional Hospital. She weighed 7 pounds, four ounces and was 20 ½ inches long.

Paternal grandparents are the late Jerry and Debbie Bragg of Barnwell.

Maternal grandparents are Jeff and Krystal Teems of Barnwell.

Loadholt, Capers engaged

Ms. Mable Loadholt and Mr. Kenneth Robinson of Fairfax are proud to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Camellia Loadholt, to Leeon Capers. He is the son of Mr. Ronnie Capers Jr. and the late Ms. Annette Smoakes of Hampton.

The bride-elect is currently employed by Allendale County Hospital.

The groom-elect is currently employed by Allendale County Detention Center.

The wedding is planned for April 16, 2016 at 3 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Hampton.

Week of Young Child Celebration 
Barnwell County First Steps invites residents to the Week of the Young Child celebration on Thursday, April 7 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Blackville Community Center (19464 Solomon Blatt Ave., Blackville). This is a day of free activities and information, including a coloring station, story time, fingerprinting/child ID, family fitness, snacks and more.

Gantt, Morris engaged

Mr. and Mrs. Todd Gantt of Barnwell are proud to announcement the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Shelby Ruth Gantt, to Edward Bryson Morris. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Morris of Barnwell.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Heider and the late Mr. and Mrs. Judson Gantt.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Croft, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Brabham and the late Franklin Morris.

The bride-elect is a 2010 graduate of Barnwell High School. She is currently attending the University of South Carolina.

Community Calendar - March 23, 2016

Circle Theatre Summer Camp
Circle Theatre of Barnwell will conduct its annual youth summer camp in July. There will be two separate weeks divided by age groups. July 11 to 17 will be for teens ages 14 to 18 and July 18 to 24 for kids 8 to 13. The older teens will produce and stage an age-appropriate comedy while the younger kids will participate in an MTI Broadway Jr. production (TBD) that will be produced and directed by the camp director Betty Bohmer with the assistance of the older teens. 

Church Events

Barnwell First Baptist presents “The Living Last Words” on Wednesday, March 23 at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. The event is free.

St. Peter Baptist Church, Elko, will celebrate the Senior Choir Anniversary immediately after the 11 a.m. service on March 20. A youth revival will be held March 23-24 at 7 p.m. nightly. An Easter Sunday program will be held March 27 at 9 a.m.

Polk twins - Birth

Michael and Amber Polk are proud to announce the birth of their twins, son Kullen Michael Polk and daughter Kamrie Noelle Polk.

Kullen was born at 9:52 p.m. on January 11, 2016 at University Hospital. He weighed 5 pounds, eight ounces and was 19 inches long.

Kamrie was born at 9:57 p.m. on January 11, 2016 at University Hospital. She weighed five pounds, seven ounces and was 18 ¾ inches long.

Kullen and Kamrie have one brother, Kipper Elliott Polk.

Paternal grandparents are Ronald and Melissa Polk of Hampton.

Isabel Heltibridle turns 9

Isabel Heltibridle had her 9th birthday February 23, 2016.

She is the daughter of Ashley Miles and Bobby Heltibridle, both of Barnwell.

She has one brother, Kobey, and two sisters, Shelby and Ashby.

Paternal grandparents are Tammy Thompson and the late Phil Thompson Jr. of Barnwell.

Maternal grandparents are Ken Miles of Williston and Felicia Haddon.

Great-grandparents are Vanlear Royer of Barnwell, and Harriett and Everon Collins of Hilda.
