College students earn degrees, honors
S.C. State University
Lee Belton Tobin of Blackville graduated May 4, 2012 from S.C. State University with a degree in mathematics education and a minor in psychology. He graduated magna cum laude for earning a 3.50-3.74 cumulative grade point average.
Tobin plans to attend graduate school in the fall at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro.
He is the son of Lassie Tobin and the late L. Belton Tobin of Blackville.
Aiken Technical College
Anthony Chad Morris of Barnwell graduated Aug. 3, 2012 from Aiken Technical College with an associate degree in industrial maintenance technology (AIT IMT).
He is the son of Anthony Clay and Shirley Morris of Barnwell and Virginia Crapse Stewart of Bamberg.
Paternal grandparents are Jack and Adaree Morris of Barnwell.
Maternal grandparents are Gene Crapse and the late Jean Perkins Crapse of Bamberg.
Robert Vincent Wald of Barnwell was one of 280 students who graduated from Lander University at their spring commencement ceremonies in April. Wald earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Visual Arts and also received the school’s Golden L award for earning a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 in the last 60 hours of instruction.
Benita Kim Jones-Carter was named to the President’s List of Capella University as a result of her academic excellence in achieving a 4.0 grade point average for the winter 2012 quarter. She is a Master’s degree candidate in human behavior and social work.
Jones-Carter is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Jones of Martin and the wife of Dedrick Carter of Barnwell.

Katlyn Rush of Barnwell was named to USC’s President’s Honor List for the spring 2012 semester for earning a 4.0 grade point average.
