Polston heads west to discover nation

Cameron Polston, a junior at Jefferson Davis Academy and son of Tracey and Mandy Polston of Barnwell, recently returned from a 23-day discovery of the American West with Teens Westward Bound.
Along with 83 other teens, Cameron traveled by bus and vans from Davidson, N.C. across the U.S. to the West Coast, camping in national forests or staying on college campuses. Highlights were eating beignets in New Orleans, seeing the Alamo, hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, seeing the bright lights of Las Vegas, surfing at Santa Monica Beach, dancing at Disneyland, exploring San Francisco and Salt Lake City, touring through Yosemite National Park, shopping in Jackson Hole, Wyo., viewing Old Faithful at Yellowstone National Park, experiencing a rodeo in Cody, Wyo., viewing the presidents at Mt. Rushmore and riding through the Rockies of Colorado.
Cameron made many new friendships and memories, developed an awareness and love of America-but best of all he learned more about himself.
