Deadline looms for school races

Time is running out for those interested in running on any of Barnwell County's three public school districts.
Interested residents and incumbents wishing to seek re-election must file by Friday, Jan. 25, at 4 p.m. at their respective school district office - Barnwell District 45 (770 Hagood Ave., Barnwell), Barnwell District 19 (297 Pascallas St., Blackville) or Williston District 29 (12255 Main St., Williston).
Two seats from each board will be on the April 9 ballot.
In Barnwell District 45, Chad Perry and Rhett Richardson's seats are up for grabs. So far, only Richardson has filed.
Across the county in Williston District 29, Doris Young and Chris Rivers are up for re-election. Only Rivers and newcomer Tom Caldwell have filed as of press time.
In Blackville, Michael Thomas and Jameka Hagood's seats are on the ballot. As of press time, Hagood was the only one to file.
Interested residents can obtain the necessary forms for candidate filings at their respective school district office. All candidates are required to file a statement of economic interest form when they file.
In order to vote, residents must be registered by March 9.
