Bodiford earns prizes, automotive skills

Barnwell County Career Center Automotive Technology student Nicklaus Bodiford won first place at the High School Top Tech Challenge 2013 at the NASCAR Technical Institute Mooresville, N.C., on Jan. 26, 2013.
Bodiford was in competition with students from South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky. The students were judged on professional dress and appearance as well as safety during the hands-on tasks. The students' knowledge was tested by a written test and a parts identification exercise. They then performed hands-on tasks in the areas of electrical troubleshooting, computer diagnostics, precision mechanical measurement, and braking systems.
Bodiford won a trophy, $1,500 scholarship, and a digital multi-meter as well as several other small prizes.
He qualified to compete in the South Carolina Automobile Association All-Star Student Skills contest on Feb. 21 based on his being a student at a NATEF Accredited school (BCCC) and a written test taken in December. He will also compete at SKILLS-USA SC in April.
Bodiford, a senior at Barnwell High School, is in his third year of employment at Auto Supply and Service in Barnwell. He gained that job based on his performance in Auto Tech I.
