JDA students win contest

The Bamberg County's Brew Salkehatchie Stew sponsored their annual Story Writing and Storytelling contest on Feb. 16.
The contest was open to any contestants who live or attend school in Bamberg County, or have a relative or sponsor in Bamberg County. The contestants were required to write or tell stories that were narratives, personal, folktales, legends, tall tales, family stories, humorous, or serious.
The Salkehatchie Stew awarded semi-finalist certificates to all who entered in each grade level. First place winners were awarded certificates and $50. Second place, Third place, Honorable mentions, and Character awards were given as well with various money amounts and gift certificates.
JDA participants from Mrs. Elizabeth Hutson's second grade class were Britney Taylor awarded the Family Story Sharing certificate and First Place for Storytelling; Mary Agnes Wessels awarded First Place for Story Writing; Latham Brabham awarded Third Place for Story Writing; Benson Pena awarded Honorable Mention for Story Writing; and James Williams awarded the Character for Writing About Honesty certificate.
