Barker named Outstanding Teacher

During the Kershaw County School District 2013 Teacher of the Year Gala Celebration held on April 29, 2013, Wateree Elementary third grade teacher Chrystal Barker wad honored during the evening receiving the Outstanding First Year Teacher award.
Barker is only the fifth Kershaw County School District Elementary educator to receive the district's newest award to honor first year teachers.
A third grade teacher at Wateree Elementary in Lugoff, Barker had students in her class at the beginning of the year who were under the 50th percentile in math, language and reading on MAP testing. Now, after working diligently with different instructional strategies all of her students are at or above 50 percent in those same tested areas.
Barker is a 2005 graduate of Barnwell High School and has a Bachelors of Science from Lander University.
