Burckhalter attends HOBY

Barnwell High School student Laura Burckhalter was among 130 high school sophomores from across the state to attend the South Carolina Hugh O'Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminar.
They joined more than 6,000 sophomores from high schools globally to experience an opportunity of a life-time in leadership development this summer. The seminar was held June 21-23, once again at Erskine College in Due West.
Laura is the daughter of Marcia Burckhalter and the late James Burckhalter.
Students are chosen based upon a history of demonstrated leadership and potential for continued leadership growth.
Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership was established in 1958 by the popular actor, Hugh O'Brian, following a visit to Africa, where he was inspired by a meeting with Dr. Albert Schweitzer. South Carolina HOBY has continued the tradition of Mr. O'Brian by sponsoring State Seminars in S.C. since 1981, and has successfully graduated over 4,000 SC HOBY Alumni.
