Barnwell police make arrests in robbery and shooting incident

Barnwell Police Department has made three arrests in the armed robbery and shooting incident which occurred Dec.15.

Johnny D. Hardy, 19, of 1313 Hunter Dr., Barnwell was arrested on Dec. 16. He is charged with armed robbery and assault and battery with intent to kill, according to police reports.

Antwan Jones, 19, of 57 Hiott St., Barnwell was arrested Dec. 17. He is charged with armed robbery and assault and battery with intent to kill.

Marcus Kodell Jacobs, 19, of 80 Brown St., Barnwell was also arrested Dec. 17.

He is charged with armed robbery, assault and battery with intent to kill. He also had an unrelated bench warrant out on him for failure to appear.

The police incident reports state, police were dispatched to a house on 5th Street in reference to a shooting shortly after 9 p.m. Dec. 15.

When officers arrived, they found the victim, Rick Barnes, lying on the front porch. He had been shot in his left leg. The victim's brother told officers that three black males jumped into a blue vehicle and left the scene prior to law enforcement arriving.

Barnes later told officers from his hospital room that a blue Chevrolet pulled into his yard and the three males "rushed toward him" demanding Barnes "give up the money." Reports indicate Barnes knew two of his attackers "all of his life."

Barnes identified Antwan Jones as the person who fired the gun, according to the police report.
