Pickup bulldozes parking lot

Things got chaotic in the Barnwell Dollar General parking lot Friday night after a pickup truck ran off the road and slammed into the side of the store - causing damage to four other vehicles along the way.
There were no serious injuries after Berley Lindler, 74, of Barnwell, lost control of his 2004 Ford while heading east on Dunbarton Boulevard, according to Barnwell Police Chief Todd Gantt.
It remains unclear how, but Lindler lost control of the truck, swerved, turned left toward Hugh Street, accelerated, then jumped the curb and went into the parking lot. The truck rammed a parked minivan into an SUV, smashed a sedan - which hit another car - and finally crashed into the building, crushing the truck's front end. There were people in the sedan when the truck hit it. Luckily, they were only shaken up.
Emergency responders flooded the area, and a crowd of onlookers gathered in the parking lot and across Hugh Street at the BP gas station. People who were inside the store when the accident happened said they heard loud bangs and rushed outside.
Lindler passed a field sobriety test at the scene. Gantt said he was charged with failure to maintain his lane.
