New business brings sparkle to downtown

A new business in Barnwell is proof that retirement isn't just an ending.
BeBe's Baubles and Bows had its grand opening Friday. Beverly Dixon owns the business, which sells wreaths and decorating accessories.
Located on the Circle in Barnwell, the store is the result of a hobby that kept growing. Dixon, who retired from the state Department of Revenue three years ago, said she helped a neighbor decorate for a dinner party and things escalated from there.
"Retirement is not an end but a new beginning," Dixon said.
She makes decorations for weddings, baby showers, anniversaries, funerals and other occasions. She creates her own designs and also takes special orders. She said she has clients as far away as Phoenix, Ariz.
Dixon had been working out of her home the past couple of years, and the opportunity to open a store came into place a few weeks ago, she said.
"The timing was right," she said, "God has blessed me."
Faith plays a big part in Dixon's life, she said. Her business card has "Jeremiah 29:11" on it. The passage reads: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
Dixon, originally from Columbia, has lived in Barnwell for nearly 15 years. She said she really enjoys the "friendly" community.
Her friends and family were on hand to celebrate the special occasion. Her 5-year-old granddaughter, Shelby Grace Anderson, cut the ribbon as part of the ceremony. Dixon said Shelby calls her "BeBe."
Barnwell County Chamber of Commerce Director Angie Boyles wished Dixon much success and said she's glad to have her as part of Barnwell's business community.
BeBe's Baubles and Bows is at 175 Main Street. Hours are currently Monday thru Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
