Liberty Tax opens second Barnwell office

The county's Chamber of Commerce welcomed Liberty Tax Service to the downtown-Barnwell area last week.
Chamber Director Angie Boyles held the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the business, which specializes in helping people with their tax returns.
Operations officer Sherwin Gloston said the business will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday thru Saturday, during the tax season and Sundays by appointment. He said they handle all types of tax returns.
Gloston said they offer a written guarantee for 100 percent accuracy when filing customers' tax returns. He also said they offer year-round support and will represent customers if any issues with the Internal Revenue Service arise.
The company is offering a 50-50 promo: new customers get $50 on the spot for a tax return, and if you bring someone else in who gets a tax return done you get another $50.
Gloston also said they offer free returns for civil servants such as firefighters, police and nurses.
Antavious Jones is the on-site manager and Terrence Marshal is the primary owner.
Sarah Beaulieu, with Rep. Joe Wilson's office, and Martha Thompson, with the city, were also on hand to show their support.
The office is located on Allen Street across from the county administration building.
Liberty Tax Service also has an office in Walmart. The company is hiring wavers: the people you see outside the store dressed as the Statue of Liberty waving at cars. The phone number for the Allen Street office is (803) 621-2022.
The IRS will begin processing tax returns Jan. 31. The deadline to file individual returns is April 15.
