Holiday events give Barnwell County residents ample opportunities to celebrate

Tree lightings and parades scheduled throughout Barnwell County

It’s definitely looking like Christmas in Barnwell County and there are lots of public events planned over the next few weeks to celebrate.

The Town of Snelling will lead off the holiday schedule with its Christmas Tree Lighting on Sunday, Nov. 27 at 6 p.m. at town hall. There will be Christmas carols, cookies and cocoa.

The City of Barnwell’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Love Lights Dedication Service will be followed by the annual Christmas by Candlelight Shopping Downtown. It all begins at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 1. Download the Love Lights Dedication form online at www.cityofbarnwell.com. Donations go to the Barnwell County Nursing Home Residents Fund, Home Delivered Meals by Generations Unlimited and the Rotary Club’s Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust.

The annual City of Barnwell Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 3 at 4 p.m. Go to www.cityofbarnwell.com to download an application to be in the parade.

The Town of Williston’s Christmas Tree Lighting will be Saturday, Dec. 3 at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Williston in front of Meeting on Main. The town’s “Citizen of the Year” will be announced and a “special guest” is expected to arrive.

The busy weekend will continue in Williston which will host a Christmas parade on Sunday, December 4 at 4 p.m. on Main Street, Williston. On the other side of the county, the Town of Kline will hold a Christmas Tree Lighting on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 5 p.m. outside the town hall. The event includes singing and readings.

The holiday fun will continue in the Town of Blackville which will hold its Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 11 a.m. along Solomon Blatt Avenue. Applications to be in the parade are available at Blackville Town Hall.

The Town of Blackville’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting will be Sunday, Dec. 11 at 5 p.m. outside of the community center.  This will be immediately followed by “Soup and Singing” inside the community center.

The Town of Hilda will wrap up festivities with Christmas at the Depot on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 6 p.m. at the Hilda Depot. There will be candy for the children, rides on a fire truck, and a soup supper for all.
