Filing open for seats on 7 town councils

Filing has begun for seats on seven local town councils, according to the Barnwell County Election Commission.

Filing opened Aug. 1 and will remain open until Aug. 15 at noon. Candidates have to file at the Barnwell County Voter Registration and Elections Office located at 367 Fuldner Rd., Barnwell.

The General Election for citizens residing inside the municipal boundaries of Barnwell, Blackville, Elko, Kline, Hilda, Snelling and Williston will be held on Tuesday, November 7.

A runoff election, if necessary, will be held two weeks later on Thursday, November 21.

These elections are non-partisan elections and no party affiliation shall be placed on the ballot.

The following offices shall be included in these elections:

City of Barnwell: Council District #1, Council District #3, and Council District #5 for four-year terms. Filing fees for Council seats are $25. Precincts involved in this election are Barnwell #1, Barnwell #2, Barnwell #3, and Barnwell #4, and are located in the National Guard Armory at 10233 Marlboro Ave., Barnwell.

Town of Blackville: Three Councilperson seats to fill for four-year terms. Filing fees for Council seats are $75. Precincts involved in this election are Blackville #1, Blackville, #2, and Healing Springs, and are located in the Blackville Community Center at 19464 Solomon Blatt Ave., Blackville.

Town of Elko: Two Councilperson seats to fill for four-year terms. There will not be a filing fee for office of council. The precinct involved in this election is the Elko Precinct in the Elko Fire Dept. located at 10077 US Highway 78, Elko.

Town of Kline: Two Councilperson seats to fill for four-year terms. There will not be a filing fee for office of council. The precinct involved in this election is in the Kline Town Hall located at 1247 Kings Ave., Kline.

Town of Hilda: Two Councilperson seats to fill for four-year terms. There is a $5 filing fee for office of council. The precinct involved in this election is the Hilda Precinct in the Hilda Town Hall, 35 Railroad Ave. in Hilda.

Town of Snelling: The Mayor and two Councilperson seats to fill for four-year terms. There will not be a filing fee for office of mayor or council seats. The precinct involved in this election is in the Snelling Town Hall, 71 Morris St. in Snelling.

Town of Williston: Mayor and three Councilperson seats to fill for four-year terms. Filing fees for mayor and council seats are $25. Precincts involved in this election are Williston #1, Williston #2, and Williston, #3 and Elko. Polling places for this General Election will be held at the Williston Town Hall, 13112 Main Street, Williston, and the Elko Fire Department, 10077 US Hwy. 78, Elko.

Persons desiring to vote in these elections must be duly registered on the County Books of Registration as an elector and a resident of the municipality, not less than 30 days prior to the date of election. The last day to register to vote for these municipal elections will be Saturday, October 7.

To register to vote in Barnwell County or update your address and/or other voter registration information, visit the office of the Barnwell County Registration and Elections at 367 Fuldner Rd., Barnwell. The office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Citizens with a current and valid S.C. Driver’s License or DMV ID Card can register to vote and/or update their address online at www.scvotes.org.

The polls will open at 7 a.m. on Election Day and close at 7 p.m.

At 9 a.m. on Election Day, the Barnwell County Election Commission will begin counting of the absentee ballot return envelopes. This will be held at the Barnwell County Voter Registration and Elections office located at 367 Fuldner Rd., Barnwell.
