Haskell named CPO of Barnwell Co. United Way
The United Way of Barnwell County has hired John C. Haskell as its new chief professional officer.
Haskell, 63, of Barnwell, replaces Jess Wilbanks who moved to Atlanta, Ga.
The Barnwell United Way is a volunteer service organization which raises funds and distributes that money to other non-profit organizations in Barnwell and Allendale counties.
Barnwell County’s United Way also sponsors projects such as the upcoming “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive and “Project Care” in the spring which benefits individuals, communities and schools, said Haskell.
While Haskell took over as CPO on June 15, the United Way is not new to him. “I have volunteered in the past. It’s a good organization to be affiliated with,” he said.
Haskell’s parents were from Barnwell County but they moved around as a military family. “I came back in 1970 to Denmark and then moved to Barnwell in 1985,” said Haskell.
He served in the U.S Navy and also graduated from Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College with a degree in industrial electricity.
“I’ve spent most of my career in sales, marketing and administration,” said Haskell, who has sold cars, trucks and distributed school busses.
He worked for the former owners of B&B Motors and then for Whittle Motor Company. For the last 10 years of his career, Haskell worked for Denmark Technical College as the Barnwell site coordinator for continuing education.
For the United Way, Haskell says he has “big shoes to fill” following Jess Wilbanks. “I want to help the United Way be stronger. My goal is to build upon what Jess has done. I also want to meet or exceed our annual goal.”
This year’s goal is $70,000. Haskell said the fundraiser starts with the Stuff the Bus event and runs through the school year until May 2018.
Anyone wishing to donate or volunteer can contact Haskell on the United Way’s office phone of (803) 259-2218 or by his cell at (803) 671-0615. His email is firstname.lastname@example.org.
