District 29 superintendent goes on leave
Mystery surrounds the status of Williston District 29 Superintendent Dr. Missoura Ashe.
A letter was sent to employees last week from Board Chairman Ferlecia Cuthbertson stating that “the Superintendent is presently on leave.”
It directed that, “While Dr. Ashe is away, any calls or matters typically addressed by her be forwarded to Mrs. (Stephanie) Alford at the District Office.” Alford is the district’s human resource coordinator.
As of Tuesday, the board had not issued a statement to the public nor indicated the length of Ashe’s expected absence.
Multiple phone calls to Cuthbertson and the district office have not been returned.
It is unknown whether Ashe requested a leave of absence or whether she was placed on leave by the board.
Ashe was hired in 2015 but her first full school year was the 2016-17. In Sept. 2016 her contract was extended until June 30, 2019.
The District 29 board had scheduled a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. which included a closed session to discuss an employment matter and receive legal advice. It is unknown if that closed session is related to Ashe’s absence.
