Local closings announced due to Hurricane Irma

The following closings have been announced.
The Barnwell County Courthouse and county offices will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 11 and 12. The Sept. 12 County Council meeting is postponed until Sept. 19.
The City of Barnwell will be closed Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 11 and 12. The Sept. 11 City Council meeting is rescheduled for Sept. 18.
- The City of Barnwell would like to remind residents and businesses that normally have Friday trash pick-up, garbage will be picked up on Saturday this week due to the delayed Holiday schedule.
- Due to the impending Hurricane Irma expected to arrive with tropical force winds and rain on Monday, there will be no garbage pick-up on Monday, Sept. 11. More information regarding Tuesday and the rest of the week’s schedule will be posted on the city website and sent out via the Barnwell buzz and facebook as soon as a decision is made. Please be reminded to secure your roll carts inside or securely tied down close to buildings.

The Town of Blackville will be closed Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 11 and 12.
The Town of Snelling has rescheduled its monthly town council meeting for Monday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m.
The Town of Williston will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 11 and 12. The meeting of the Williston Town Council has been moved to Monday, Sept. 18.
Allendale County School District: Friday, Sept. 8 will be a half day for students but full day for employees. Schools will be closed for students and employees on Monday and Tuesday. They are tentatively planning to keep schools closed to students on Wednesday, but employees are to report at 10 a.m. School resumes normally on Thursday.
Barnwell County Public Schools: All Barnwell County Schools will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 11 and 12.
Jefferson Davis Academy will be closed Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 11 and 12.
New Jerusalem Child Development Center, Barnwell, will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 11 and 12, and will reopen at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13.
Aiken Technical College currently plans to proceed with classes and operations as normally scheduled for the upcoming week. The College will continue to monitor news and information regarding Hurricane Irma.

Denmark Technical College cancelled classes beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7. However, employees are to report to work as normal on Friday.
S.C. State University: S.C. State University closed at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept 7 in anticipation of Hurricane Irma. “Additionally, scheduled programs, activities and events are canceled.
All residential halls will close at noon Friday, Sept. 8. All students are encouraged to begin evacuation immediately when the university closes.”
USC Salkehatchie: “Sept. 8, 2017: The Allendale and Walterboro campuses of USCSalkehatchie will be closed on Monday , September 11 and Tuesday, Sept. 12 due to the hurricane.The University of South Carolina Salkehatchie is monitoring the forecast for Hurricane Irma and coordinating with local and state agencies. As a state agency, the university follows the delay and closing determinations of Colleton and Allendale County governments. University officials will continue to consult with state and local officials and any updates on potential cancellations or closings will be posted here, social media and Carolina Alert.

Voorhees: “Beginning Friday, Sept. 8, classes have been suspended until further notice. Faculty, staff and administration are working Friday but the college (all scheduled activities) is closed beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9. Students leaving to go home or connect with relatives are encouraged to do so but the college will provide services to students who decide to remain on campus. These plans apply to the main campus as well as our weekend program and the off-site instructional campus in Charleston. Axis 1 Center of Barnwell will be closed Monday and Tuesday.
Barnwell County Public Library will be closed Monday and Tuesday.
