Allendale Town Hall has reopened for business as of Thursday morning.

The municipal building in Allendale was shut down and searched by state and federal law enforcement agents on Tuesday, Oct. 5 who reportedly took documents from the facility.

Town Administrator DeWayne Ennis said, “I can’t comment on the investigation” but confirmed that the town hall is back open for municipal business.

Ennis said no one to his knowledge has been arrested in connection with the investigation.

On Tuesday morning the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) conducted a joint raid of the Allendale Town Hall.

Although it’s unclear what or who the agencies are investigating, Donald Wood, a supervisory special agent with the FBI’s Columbia office, confirmed his agency and SLED executed a search warrant of the government building around 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 3.

“They did some investigative work. I can’t comment on the nature of the investigation or the subjects being investigated,” he said.

However, SLED spokeswoman Kathryn Richardson said the search was part of an “ongoing investigation involving a public official with the town.”

Law enforcement officials were on the scene throughout Tuesday afternoon.
