Jefferson Davis Academy receives full accreditation

Jefferson Davis Academy in Blackville recently received USC accreditation.

On October 20, Jefferson Davis Academy was visited by the University of South Carolina accreditation audit team that included Dr. Victoria Oglan, Dr. Janie Goodman, and Mr. Joe Husley.

During the audit, the team examined the complete vessel of information to include, Curriculum Guides, Long Range Plans, student and personnel files, Emergency Action Plans, Teacher and Student handbooks, Standardize test scores, daily and yearly schedules, Financial Records, Library Standards, SCISA Standards, Policy Manual, University of South Carolina-Salkhatchie Dual Credit Courses, Athletic Handbook, and Athletic forms, according to a press release from the school. The team also interviewed the Head of School, as well as a cross section of students, teachers and Board of Directors.

At the completion of the audit, an exit interview was conducted to review the results.

Dr. Victoria Oglan stated that JDA’s curriculum guides were the best she’s seen in her 15 years of completing audits for schools. She went on to state that the school’s records and facilities were “much improved from 2014.”

Students and teachers were also interviewed to collect data on the moral and state of the school from their prospective. The accreditation team stated that teachers and students spoke very highly of the school’s academic standards, learning environment, Board of Directors and the administration.

Finally, the accreditation team’s chairman Dr. Victoria Oglan gave full approval to Jefferson Davis Academy for accreditation and made recommendation that Jefferson Davis Academy seek advanced SCISA accreditation.
