Community Soup Kitchen opening Friday, Dec. 1

  • Approximately 60 people attended a dinner to learn more about volunteering at the new community soup kitchen opening in Barnwell.

Sixty people from 10 area churches attended a volunteer dinner meeting Nov. 17 to learn about helping with the new community soup kitchen opening Friday, Dec. 1 in the activity center of Barnwell First Baptist.

Currently, there are only enough volunteers to be open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from noon to 1 p.m.

“We still have a few days available on the calendar if anybody would like to help,” said Sherrie Still, soup kitchen coordinator.

Churches and organizations are volunteering to cook and serve food on certain days of the week or a couple times a month, depending on their resources. Individuals are also welcome to volunteer and fill in where needed to form teams.

Anyone wishing to eat who hasn’t applied for a ticket should see Still at the church office before Friday to fill out paperwork.
