H&R Block collecting items for Ashleigh Place

H&R Block’s Barnwell office is now open to assist in tax preparation, but they also want to assist a local agency.

The tax preparation company has selected Ashleigh Place in Blackville as their non-profit organization to support in the community this year. H&R Block’s Barnwell office is hosting a community donation drive until the end of tax season to collect items the residents of the girls group home need.

“These children need to know that they are not forgotten and are supported by the community,” said Donna Spence with H&R Block in a press release.

Ashleigh Place Director Dawn Owen said she is grateful to H&R Block for the help because the girls often come to them without the basics. “I think it’s a wonderful thing they’re doing for the girls,” said Owen.

Currently, H&R Block is focusing on winter items to help the girls during the colder months. This includes stocking style hats, gloves and socks. They also need nightshirts, pajama bottoms and underwear (not super low cut or super high), as well as school supplies like lined school paper (no college rule) and composition notebooks (no spiral bound). Yarn is also needed, particularly bright colors, neon, black and white.

A drop-off donation box is located inside the H&R Block located at 10383 Dunbarton Boulevard, Barnwell. Monetary donations are also appreciated and checks can be made to Ashleigh Place Inc.

“Let’s let these kids know that we as a community have a heartfelt interest in their well-being and care and support them,” said Spence.
