Hubbard charged with DUI after fatal wreck
One person is dead and another is charged with felony DUI after an early Sunday morning wreck.
Austin D. Hubbard, 21, of Barnwell, is charged with one count of felony driving under the influence resulting in death, according to Lance Cpl. Matt Southern with the S.C. Highway Patrol.
The charge stems from a wreck that occurred Sunday, Jan. 14 around 2:21 a.m. that left Collin Carroll, 21, of Patterson Mill Road, Barnwell, dead. Carroll, who was a front seat passenger in the vehicle, died as a result of head and chest trauma, according to the Barnwell County Coroner's Office.
Southern said Hubbard was headed south on Harris Road near Joey Zorn Boulevard when his vehicle ran off the left side of the road. The vehicle struck an embankment and overturned, which caused Carroll to be ejected.
There were also three passengers in the back seat, but none of them were injured, said Southern. Hubbard also was not injured.
Neither Hubbard nor any of the four passengers were wearing seat belts, said Southern.
Hubbard was sent to the Barnwell County Detention Center.
The accident remains under investigation.
