D29 board seeks input in search for superintendent
Applications are now being accepted for the Williston District 29 superintendent’s position.
After the school board retained the services of the S.C. School Boards Association to search for its next superintendent, SCSBA officials returned to Williston on Jan. 16 to provide an update. They posted the position on Jan. 8 and will accept applications through Feb. 19.
“We’ve received a number of calls of interest from potential candidates,” said Scott Price, executive director of the SCSBA, who could not elaborate about the number of applicants at this time.
Once the application deadline ends, the school board will submit a list of characteristics and qualifications they want the SCSBA to use while reviewing applications. The pool of candidates will then be presented to the school board on Feb. 26 so they can select semi-finalists. Semi-finalists will then be interviewed March 12, 13 and 14. From there the board will narrow the search to a group of finalist candidates on March 16. The finalists will be in District 29 for interviews with the board April 16-18, according to a timeline approved by the board.
The board plans to announce its new superintendent on April 25 and have the person start by June 1.
While the board ultimately selects the next superintendent, they are seeking public input. An online survey about the qualifications, characteristics and professional experiences the next superintendent should possess is available at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Williston29Survey. Focus groups will be conducted on Jan. 30, including one with members of the public. Results of the survey and focus groups will be presented to the board.
