A new heart brought a child home for Christmas.
Following four months of hospital visits, Jakeria Jamison, 11, of Williston, came home Dec. 16 after receiving a heart transplant Nov. 10, 2011, in Charleston.
With the transplant complete, Jakeria still faces cardiac rehab for 36 weeks in Aiken and periodic checks for rejection, which are every two weeks right now, said her mother, Natasha Holmes. “She has no rejection,” but she will be on anti-rejection medicine the rest of her life.
