Boy Scouts, leaders hike 63 miles in New Mexico

Eight members of Boy Scout Troop 392 made a 12-day trek at the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico in July.
Philmont Scout Ranch is the Boy Scouts of America's largest national High Adventure Base consisting of 34 camps and 55 trails, according to the Philmont website.
The group of scouts consisted of eight youth and four adults. Two of the youth and two of the adults had traveled the ranch before.


Barnwell animal shelter needs volunteers to help save lives

The Barnwell County Animal Shelters is seeking volunteers to help with the photography of the animals.
"The photos are sent to no-kill rescue organizations so that hopefully someone will accept at least some of them into their organizations for adoption," said Shirley McCollum, the rescue coordinator. "Without someone to assist photographer Tom Lollis, the photos will not be available and more dogs at the shelter will have to be euthanized."
