Local singer/band play at Aiken presidential debate
Christian singer/songwriter Kristie Hutson of Blackville, along with her band, Water’s Edge, which includes
her dad and guitarist, Jimmy Elkins of Williston, performed Jan. 17 at the USC Aiken Convocation Center during the GOP Presidential Debate. The event saw more than 1,000 people fill the center.
Kristie and Water’s Edge took the stage beginning with an a capella rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” followed by various patriotic songs. They ended their performance with the debut of an original, American hero-themed song called “American Idol.” Hutson said she was very excited about the revealing of this new song.
“It is a song that will touch the hearts of Americans...sending the message about sacrifices everyday people make for others and their country,” Hutson said.
She said she was very honored to be given this song to record and perform.
It was written by established, award winning songwriter Archie Jordan who wrote hits recorded by artists such as Ronnie Milsap (“What a Difference You Made in My Life” and “It was Almost Like a Song”), Anne Murray, Kenny Rogers, The Tams, Shirley Caesar, and many others, she said.
Waters Edge includes band members Kenny Holland (bassist), Greg Dawson (drummer) and Arthur Moore (keyboardist), in addition to Hutson and Elkins.
“My most exciting moment was singing ‘The Star Spangled Banner’...mainly because of what the song represents but also because it was a childhood dream of mine to sing that song at a major event. It was an amazing experience for us all,” said Hutson
She said none of this would be possible if not for Lightstream Media and Mel Minitor, her producer/manager/promoter. Hutson credits her management with being the reason she has her own web show that allows her to come into the homes of others with positive and Christian messages and music each week.
You can access “The Kristie Hutson Show” by visiting www.LSTVmedia.com and clicking on channel 5. A new show broadcasts every Thursday at 8 p.m., and previous shows can be viewed at any time.
Kristie said she will soon be making the transition from internet broadcasting to television.
