Man found not guilty of 2012 murder shot to death
State and local authorities are investigating the shooting death of a man recently acquitted of murder.
Officers were called to Sparrow Circle in Blackville around 10:30 p.m. last night, Sept. 27, for a shots fired call. They found a man lying in the road bleeding from his face and head, said Blackville Police Chief John Holston.
Barnwell County Coroner Lloyd Ward said the victim, 29-year-old Tracy Maurice Davis of Blackville, was dead by the time EMS arrived of an apparent gunshot wound. Ward confirmed Davis as the man a jury found not guilty last month of the 2012 murder of Leon Brown in Blackville.
An autopsy was performed in Newberry this morning.
Holston said there are no suspects at this time, but the State Law Enforcement Division is investigating with the assistance of his department.
