A two-car wreck in Orangeburg County on S.C. 3 took the life of a Blackville man last week.
Thomas Reed, 57, of Blackville, died on the scene from blunt force trauma, said Sean Fogle, the Orangeburg County deputy coroner.
The wreck occurred around 3:45 p.m., July 13, four miles south of Springfield, in a 55 mph zone, said Lance. Cpl. Joseph Robinson of the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Reed, who was wearing a seat belt, was a passenger in a 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Eddie Mayes of Denmark, said Robinson.
Mayes' vehicle struck a 2009 Chevrolet pickup driven by Robert Rozier of Prosperity, with a passenger, Ben Hawkenson, said Robinson.
Both were wearing their seat belts and suffered minor injuries, said Robinson.
Mayes' truck was traveling northbound on S.C. 3 and Rozier's vehicle was traveling southbound, Robinson said.
Mayes' truck slew left of the center line and veered to the left shoulder of the road - then overcorrected to the right and back to the left and struck Rozier's vehicle.
Mayes' truck continued off the road and he was trapped in it, said Robinson.
He sustained injuries and was sent to the Medical College of Georgia for treatment, said Robinson.
The wreck is still under investigation.
